Hey, Emily, how are you doing?Doing really well. Packing for a trip to my favorite city of all time, New York.
What are your feelings about being TREATS!’ issue 3 cover girl?
It feels great! I couldn’t be more excited. The response has been mind-blowing already. I’m looking forward to people seeing the entire story and the rest of the magazine.
People might not know this but you were in the first two issues of TREATS! but were playing “dress up.” People are going to be surprised by this cover…it is so raw, earthy and, well, YOU.
Yep, but it’s a models job to be a chameleon. I guess that’s why I particularly love this cover story. It really is just me; my hair how it always looks, no shoes or a persona to take on. Don’t get me wrong, I love doing that as well, but it is refreshing to see myself in this issue and go ‘Hey, I know that girl.’ This isn’t technically my first cover, but is definitely the best publication to feature me on their cover.
Is there any particular brand or company you’d like to be a muse for?
No particular dream campaign. There are too many talented and creative people in this industry to say anybody specific. I just hope for people who are as inspired by me as I am by them.
Your ethnicity is so unique that no one ever guesses right it seems…
I feel like people always assume I’m Brazilian and that I’m letting them down when I tell them I’m not. I’m really just a big mix, mostly Eastern European and Mediterranean.
What photographers or models inspired you growing up?
My father is a painter, so growing up in an artistic environment I always loved photography. Also, traveling to Europe frequently during my childhood I’d see beautiful topless women walking around on the beaches. They were confident and sexy, and I think that I was drawn to that mentality. Fashion photography is the perfect combination of art and femininity. I find it empowering to be the muse of an image.
Any favorites?
Herb Ritts. I just went to his exhibit at the Getty and was inspired and awe struck. I wish I had been able to work with him in that era.
Describe your cover shoot in 10 characters or less.
Steve and Emily. Raw. Sexy. Confidence. Pure Treats!
Finally, where do you see yourself in a year from now?
Who knows? I’m never the one to make predictions for that sort of thing. But I will say that so far 2012 is looking like a fantastic year.
