The whole Stannis/Melesandre story arc is essentially Macbeth. 

GOT makes me detect so many historical and fictional (fantasy/medieval) tropes.

I would love to see a list of his sources.

There is also an interesting reversal of various tropes: eg. The tourney champion (Sir Loras) is a homosexual.
