Some friend sent a picture of her in 1985 for the elite's contest Look of the year. She wasn't in the fashion industry at all. 

The contest was in September 1986 in Forte dei Marmi in Italy (close to Pisa city).

Karen was finally ranked 2nd.

Using reverse image search on Yandex (Russian search engine), I get: Karen Mulder by Grant Matthews Vogue Australia July 1992.

but agree it doesn’t look like her.

hard to say for sure because of the angle and the hat i confess but some specific karen facial features look exactly the same to me ( lips, philtrum ) so if not her, the model is really a look alike
