He's mostly real. Which isn't to say The Patriot is realistic...although it combines a couple historical "facts" it's mostly a joke.

There are lots of characters that I like, but one type that I've become fond of recently is women that kick ass while maintaining their sensitive and womanly qualities. One such great character is Eowyn in the LOTR trilogy. Honorable, brave, beautiful, graceful and very good with a sword. The reason I get into these types is because this is my hope for my daughter.
