2013 SI Swimsuit

her boobs look hilariously large. i know she's got some cleavage ... but this is like next level photoshop stuff. haha. her boobs are literally LARGER than her head in that photo!! haha.

either way - i knew that Kate would get the cover. it's a no-brainer, really. i love Anne V, but she's been doing the magazine for about a decade and they haven't given her the cover yet, so why would they now? she doesn't have 10% of the fame and popularity that Kate Upton does. nor sales potential, clearly.

assuming there are 17 models (as SI reported) and only 4 rookies (based on the teaser video), that's the smallest rookie class...probably in decades. certainly since they started with "themed" issues (1997) and the concept of rookies (1999)

this year will also be tied with the fewest number of models since 1999.

the issue used to have a lot higher turnover. recently, though, they've maintained a consistent roster with much less space for new models. girls come back for 4-9 issues even if they never get the cover. this is anne v's 9th issue, irina and julie's 7th, jessica gomes' 6th...and only one cover among them. go back a few years and it's hard to find models like that (bridget hall and laetitia casta were rare exceptions with 5 and 4 issues, respectively)

i guess the lesson for models is: make buddy-buddy with mj day and darcie baum, and you've got job security! if not, well, i'll still be there for you, kim cloutier...

Finally got to see the cover in HQ in my computer, looks way better than it did on my phone (Y) ... An improvement from last year, no doubts there

This cover gives me a weird feeling like it was completely predictable because we all knew Kate was the strongest contender but it was a little unpredictable because at the same time most of us were expecting another boring cover on the beach/sand/water so it's nice to see that they finally did something different with the location

I'm not sure why this is such a hard concept for people to understand, but here we go.

SI is a business, and the bottom is sales and money. MJ and crew have a job to do and that is to sell as much product as humanly possible. MJ's personal relationships with the girls have zero bearing on MONEY. Now if MJ fails to put someone on the cover who will SELL and bring in them MONEY, then the SI executives are going to be taking a long hard look at what MJ and crew are doing.

Whether MJ loves the girls are not, if she fails to do her part for the magazine then the next logical step is that the people above her will possibly find someone to replace her. I.E MJ is at risk of losing her job.

MONEY talks, MJ doesn't.

Kate is THEE only woman in the bunch who is selling to mainstream America, and in case you aren't aware - the majority of SI Swimsuit's income comes from them. You don't appeal to mainstream media in the United States, or aren't well enough known so that your name can carry you to a recognizable place that the average Joe on the street will to go out and purchase something you are on, then don't expect to be on the cover UNLESS they're no big names for the year. No huge names and it becomes a crap shoot and MJ and company will feverishly try and find the next big thing for the following year.

Next big thing better pray to god that in the course of the year she can SELL to Mister Joe Average in Kansas.

If being friends with MJ meant that much Brooklyn would have gotten the cover before Bar and Chrissy, Julie H & Anne would probably have at least one cover under their belts ... But they don't, because MJ is not an idiot an in order to keep her job she needs to sell those magazines

Being friends with MJ probaly helps the girls at the time of the casting, but not with the cover. Is it really that hard to admit that Kate is more relevant in mainstream than ANY other model out there in recent times?
