3D-printed Oreos a hit at music festival
A 3D printer that shoots out flavoured Oreos based on Twitter trends has become a hit at the SXSW (South by Southwest) music festival in Austin, Texas.
Even the name of the exhibit -- Oreo Trending Vending Lounge - sounds like some futuristic Candyland.
The "lounge" is a creation of the candy and cookie giant Mondelez International, which describes the experimental cookie printer as "a new way of imagining the future of snacking distribution and consumer engagement through increasing connectivity and customization."
A pair of machines set up at the festival gives snackers a chance to choose from 12 "trending flavours" and a choice of colours. Tubes spin around behind a small window, laying out the requested filling. About two minutes later, voila -- a weird-looking Oreo appears.
But how do they taste?
"Not the prettiest cookie, but the birthday cake filling was pretty darn good," @paulapocket Tweeted.
