I actually thought rockability was extinct.

Ooh, look who's back!
Rockabilly is definitely not extinct! It's still alive and well
Just now, Joe > Average said:It seems that you put your own signature on it, but definitely represented the subgenre.
And that was exactly the idea!
And also to escape the typical clichés of the genre by doing a Rockabilly about bicycles.

Speaking of genres that I assumed were extinct, I saw an interview with Vince Neil where he seemed to still be bitter about the grunge takeover. Of course, it affected him directly, but didn't hair/glam medal have a really long run?
At least longer than a lot of stuff.

Not that much really. It exploded in the mid-80's ('85-'86?) to start fading by 1991.
It did have a longer run than Grunge itself though.

I find the timeline of this genre to be very confusing. It seems that some bands were around well before it had its own era. On the other hand, there are 70s bands that clearly had a huge influence on the genre even if they were moreso just plain hard rock. To be honest, I initially saw it as a novelty until I heard "Still of the Night" "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Cherry Pie."
After that, I discovered Blue Murder and some other bands. Lately I've been curious as to what the artists did specifically during the post-glam transition.

Well you also had the Glam movement from the '70s. Which is quite different from the 80's Glam/Hair Metal though; it was a British movement to start with and musically very different. But it did have some influence over the 80's Hair Metal. I'd say it's quite noticeable in Mötley Crüe's first album and the earlier Quiet Riot stuff.
Quite Riot actually got popular by covering Slade.
Most Hair Metal bands started around the early '80s, but the genre exploded around 1987 or so.
Funny you mentioned songs like Still of the Night and Pour Some Sugar on Me, since these are by British bands that jumped on the wagon of Glam Metal by the mid-late '80s.
I got the impression that most bands of the movement disappeared from the map once Grunge took over.
Or at least most stopped making anything relevant.

Now that Game of Thrones is everywhere, this is the song that gives it's title to the last album, now on video with the clones!
This song is about the conquest of Westeros by Aegon Targaryen.

New video!

^ Awesome.
Knopfler's guitar work is wonderful.

Another cover, and quite an interesting one this time.
This is on youtube since Friday but I didn't have the chance to post it till now.
So, here I'm collaborating with a friend on guitar.

Amazing cover
You have so much talent
Is it harder to cover since it's usually sung by a woman? Do you have to go much higher? (sorry if it's a ridiculous question i don't know anything about singing 😂)

Great cover!
I wish I had that range.
Sadly, with my bass register all I can do well are songs like "16 Tons" etc.

Thank you so much!!
Being originally sung by a woman didn't really make it that much harder for me to be honest. Then again it's not an easy song to sing for most people. Even for women it seems, from what I've noticed.
I do have to go higher but the song is still within my confortable range for the most part. But I have a really wide vocal range, so singing this particular song is not that much harder for me than something by say Elvis Presley.
For example, a song that was REALLY difficult and challenging for me to sing was Grace by Jeff Buckley.
And hey, no ridiculous question at all!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I can't reach the low notes on The Platters' version of 16 Tons

@Stormbringer thx for the heads-up on this song! I freaking enjoyed this one a lot!

Everyone knows the song from movies, games and whatnot. That one's tough because you have that legendary riff and the power, high range vocals. The Wilson sisters would be proud. Good lookin' out baby.
Thanks!!
Yeah, the classics of this caliber should always be taken carefully
But we had fun recording this one!. We actually played heavier and a bit faster than the original version.
