NEW YORK — “It’s my first show…basically ever,” admitted Pyper America with a smile backstage Friday afternoon at Milk for the Cushnie et Ochs Spring / Summer 2016 runway show. Could that actually be true of the model with nearly a half million Instagram followers and such on-the-job experience as shooting a campaign in Iceland with Annie Leibovitz?! Evidently so, but judging by the poise with which Pyps (as she is affectionately known) wore her black leather ruffle blouse and black viscose knit pant by award-winning designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, viewers could be forgiven for believing otherwise. If Pyper has been holding out on the runway world, then she could not have picked a better entrance than for this collection designed so lovingly and yet executed so technically. Case in point is the black leather zipper racer dress worn by Marta Placzek. The zipper danced along the outer edge of the leather dress as if to make a complete mockery of the historical importance of interlocking teeth to society as it is known. Heady stuff to be sure, but together with Agne Konciute and Blanca Padilla, this quartet at Next also made it heartfelt.
