Saldly, in a global conflict like that one, and not even, we'll know more battles à la Stalingrad than Koursk ... Koursk will happen once on a front, followed by MANY Stalingrad or Leningrad type of battles ... Thanks to the defensive technology.
Since decades, with the absence of real intensive conflicts, denfensive techs improved way more than offensive ones.
This book has been e-scanned and you could probably torrent it if you're interested. I was going to buy it and ended up downloading it from a paid filehost. It's 800 pages long, and one of kind. The book narrowly focuses on the "climax" for Germany in WW2. It follows 5 x Assault engineer battalions as they attempt to take the last 5% of Stalingrad and then their subsequent struggle for survival. Survivors were interviewed, and one gets to know of their fate, and who these people were and what they believed in. It's very intimate. There is some Soviet coverage but it's not as extensive as the German.
I think a material battle will happen if major powers fight each other conventionally. This is not likely to ever happen due to how globalized the world economy is. Counter-insurgent fighting tend to migrate into populated areas and without the Clausewitz frame of the 'decisive' battle.
