AC Milan's Ronaldo: Kaka will win Ballon d'Or - and stay

Ronaldo is backing AC Milan teammate Kaka to win the Ballon d'Or next month - and to also stay at the San Siro.

"I think, yes, he will win it," said Ronaldo. "I made a joke with him by asking if the Ballon d'Or organization had called. I frightened him by saying that they usually contact you one month before the ceremony to take some photos! But of course it's not true, the pictures are actually taken in the last two weeks, and there is still time.

"I am sure that he'll win for what he has done throughout this year and the past season.

"Is Kaka unsettled? I do not think so, he is happy, we are all happy here in Milan."

AC Milan's Ronaldo 'ready to play'

MILAN, Italy (AP) - AC Milan striker Ronaldo is hoping to play his first Serie A game in six months on Sunday when the Italian first division resumes after the international break.

"I feel ready to play," Ronaldo said. "Now I'm waiting to be selected."

Ronaldo featured in a charity match on Monday but has not played competitive soccer since July, when he hurt his thigh in training. He is expected to start alongside Filippo Inzaghi at Cagliari on Sunday, where Milan will look to return to the top half of the Serie A standings.

"Ronie had this problem but he's over it now," Inzaghi said. "We hope he can give us a hand on the pitch."

Milan is only 11th in the division with 14 points, 11 adrift of leader Inter Milan and five above the relegation zone.

Inzaghi has also had little action in the league this season - starting only three games - and has yet to score. But the 34-year-old forward thinks that is just a matter of time.

"I feel well," Inzaghi said. "When a player feels in form, things go right more easily. Being in form pays. And I say that independently of goals, which do not always come consistently for a striker."

Irrespective of whether Ronaldo and Inzaghi play, neither will be cheered on by Rossoneri supporters at Cagliari's Sant'Elia stadium. The soccer league has banned Milan's fans and those of another 12 teams in Italy's top three divisions from traveling to this weekend's games following riots sparked by the shooting of a Lazio fan by police two weeks ago.

Ronaldo ready to revitalise Milan

AC Milan continue to mix convincing UEFA Champions League form with disappointing results – especially at home – in Serie A. However, Ronaldo's expected return from injury at Cagliari Calcio on Sunday could give Carlo Ancelotti's side the impetus needed to revive their Scudetto challenge.

'I'm ready'

"I'm ready, but it's up to the coach to decide whether I play or not," said Ronaldo. "I really want to play. I have been training hard, but a game is a different matter." The 31-year-old Brazilian striker suffered what looked like a minor injury on 31 July, but a series of complications since have kept him out for nearly four months.

Poor home form

Ronaldo, who arrived from Real Madrid CF last January, scored seven goals in 14 league appearances last term. In his subsequent absence, the Rossoneri have won three of their five away games, scoring 15 goals, yet have earned only four points from six matches at San Siro, scoring three goals. "I'm sure this campaign can still change very much," Ronaldo added.

Falling behind

Milan, however, require a quick recovery as they are eleven points behind Serie A leaders FC Internazionale Milano. "Inter are playing well," said the former Nerazzurri forward. "However, the season is still very long. I think there are several sides who are more less on the same level. We have big ambitions." Although they lie eleventh in Italy, Ancelotti's men continue to set the pace in UEFA Champions League Group D.

Inter boost

Meanwhile Inter, who host Atalanta BC on Saturday, may also welcome back a key man from a thigh injury as defender Marco Materazzi seems ready for his first league outing of the campaign. "It was a very painful injury," the Italian international said. "I could hardly sleep for a month because of the pain. But I have overcome the problem and am ready to finish the season strongly with Inter and Italy."
