Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo dumps model for dentist

RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian soccer superstar Ronaldo de Lima, who plays for Spanish soccer team Real Madrid, broke off with his model girlfriend Raica Oliveira before Christmas and celebrated the new year with another Brazilian beauty, dentist Erika Abreu.

According to Brazilian newspaper O Globo on Thursday, the striker, known as Ronaldo, met Abreu, who looks a lot like Oliveira during a dentist's appointment to whiten his teeth during a visit to Rio de Janeiro.

The soccer star then invited the dentist to spend Christmas with his family and the couple then went to Madrid together. From there they traveled to Paris, where Ronaldo has an apartment, to celebrate the New Year.

The O Globo columnist said that Ronaldo has rented a dental surgery in Madrid where Abreu will continue treating his teeth.

Mijatovic Calls Ronaldo To Office

According to reports published in Madrid-based daily ‘As’, Pedja Mijatovic and Franco Baldini called Ronaldo in for a meeting to analyse the present and future of the 30 year-old Merengue striker.

The paper makes it clear that neither side wants publicity over the career chat that took place at yesterday at the Bernabéu. Ronaldo left the Valdebebas training facilities headed for the Santiago Bernabéu rather than his La Moraleja mansion.

After an hour-and-a-half delay the meeting began at 1pm and lasted until 2:30 according to Spanish sources. Some suspect that the meet was a way of hyping the player up for what will be a vital Riazor match and ensuring he starts 2007 better than 2006.

Ronaldo, for his part, apparently told Mijatovic that he’s unhappy with his reserve status and that he’s following Capello’s instructions to the letter. He’s now at his ideal weight, he’s training with more vim than ever and exhibiting more effort during matches.

If the situation continues and Capello maintains a slimline Ronaldo on the bench then he’d allegedly prefer to leave in order to find playing time at another club. Much depends on the first month of January and both sides know that it’s crunch time for the Brazilian star.
