Real Madrid will fight to keep Cannavaro from Juventus

Juventus will have to cough up £4 million for Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro if they want to bring the Italy captain back to Turin next season. It was reported in the Italian press yesterday that Cannavaro would jump at the chance of a Juve return should his former coach Marcello Lippi be appointed following Didier Deschamps' resignation last week.

However, Real chiefs have no intention of breaking up their defence, which is finally showing signs of stability in recent months. Cannavaro, 33, has three years left on his current deal and Real won't consider selling him for anything less than the £4 million they paid Juve last summer.

It was a tough game because Zaragoza are a good side which plays quality football and has many talented players. This week, we only trained once with a full squad. That is why we had many difficulties.”
