Japanese for wife, but because of weeaboo culture it's come to be a colloquial reference for a character or celebrity who emotionally immature people idolise and obsess over, usually seeing them as "purer" (i.e. more wifely) than the other dirty harlots.
For real-life celebs, it helps if they're young and/or have a "girl next door" look about them. They can be sexually provocative, but they usually can't be TOO sexual or give the appearance of deliberately trying to turn people on. Generally a sex tape, nude shoot or marriage/kids are enough to break the waifu spell.
