Him and Margot never dated but it was suspected they were hooking up during Wolf filming. There were stories about him leaving her apartment late at night, being cuddly/flirtatious at parties etc. but they always "officially" denied everything.

Yup! He also dated Kidada Jones (sister of Rashida Jones) for a minute in the 90's too. And well his ongoing thing with Rihanna.

And I think his fascination has to do with his mindset. In his mind he's just as old as he was when Titanic got big. I think in his brain he is only 23/24 so having the hot girl on his arm is a priority. I think the mega fame he experianced kind of stunted any kind of mental or personal growth. Tilda Swinton said something like an actors brain freezes in time when they become famous, and I'm finding that to be true for not just Leo, but alot of celebs.
