Schalke 3-0 Cologne

Raul collected his second Bundesliga hat-trick of the season as Schalke eased 3-0 past Cologne.

The Spanish star, who also scored three goals against Werder Bremen, struck in the 30th, 50th and 87th minutes to run his season tally to nine goals in the Bundesliga along with two in the Champions League.

Schalke have five victories and just one loss in their last seven games to jump to 22 points and 10th place in the league.

Cologne, who have not won at Schalke in 10 years, remained on 15 points in 16th place.

There were very few early chances with the most dangerous coming in the 22nd minute as Schalke defender Christoph Metzelder let a Christian Clemens cross pass through and Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer was forced to concede a corner.

Schalke grabbed the lead on the half hour mark after a mistake by Cologne defender Christopher Schorch, who had plenty of time at the touchline but turned and passed directly to Ivan Rakitic, who crossed to the far right where Raul nodded home.

Raul nearly doubled the lead just seconds before the break but Cologne's Geromel cleared just in time.

Cologne had a chance two minutes after the break but Clemens' shot went into the side netting.

Raul made it 2-0 three minutes after the break as he blasted home a loose ball from eight yards out after a cross was deflected out to him

Schalke tried to finish off Cologne but missed two chances in the 57th minute as Petit cleared Klaas Jan Huntelaar's header at the line and then Fabrice Ehret cleared Raul's attempt on the rebound.

The hosts had two more opportunities but Rakitic shot wide in the 65th minute and Raul was off-target two minutes later.

Raul completed his hat-trick with three minutes remaining, heading home Edu's free kick past Cologne keeper Faryd Mondragon.
