which, btw, they're all kinda the same in every dystopian book you can find. They only have different names, different heroes and different settings.

I like the ones in Divergent and The Hunger Games mostly.
The films/games that I have listed do show differences-but that is entirely visual. So you don't feel that they communicate the environment in a distinct manner (in books)? It is probably harder as 'a picture can communicates a thousand words"

They are actually different from book to book, but in the end it's same old story: a city rebuilt from ashes after an apocalyptic event with their society divided into classes, or castes. That's what I mean.

Oh, that's what you mean. I did not know that.
That's quite true to life though- as places get more urbanized, the economics tend to shift towards more inequality. Rural areas, towns are more egalitarian. So the Dystopic genre show the extreme form of urbanization.

Kinda. It's more of a future form of a society that can be undesirable or frightening.

I am very acquainted with New York city and I can tell you that it is undesirable AND frightening LOL.

Still I would LOVE to go there.

There are portions of the city that are tourist friendly. The most powerful aspect of NYC are the massive buildings and extreme sensory stimulation.
Sweetie, it's an amazing place to go on a vacation in or to live in for several months. Maybe up to a year. Then one realizes that they are living in a dystopia, lol. It's a very stressful and expensive place to live. (per quality of life)

Same as NYC. I love my city, it's the most amazing city of Italy imo, but still, it's a wonderful country to visit but not to move in.

That is what I do. But it is still effected by the city (real estate prices, taxes). Population density. Also, the commute is very energy and time consuming. The positives are that consumer staples haven't kept up with the inflation in other asset prices. But that's about it I would say.
The tri-state area is just not pretty- too much development.
