Basically he didn't adjust his speech for the audience.  He gave the same speeches he gave in middle America- which involves threatening to take the money, corruption, and power peddling influence away from Capital Hill.  

The Trump team tried to get troops, tanks and self-propelled missile launchers- Moscow style-  to march for a parade but this was quickly squashed.

Too many of these leftists assume that he will be a strong president.  His tweets have so far have been moving billions or tens of billions .  It may be the most powerful actions he's done. He may end up being a weak president, who knows.
