Biography

Born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1957 Andre Rau has always had a strong inclination towards the visual art from a young age. From Germany, Andre moved to Paris and began his formal training assisting Peter Lindbergh. With a remarkable career path, today Andre is acknowledged as among the most established beauty and fashion photographers of our time.

Diverse and inspiring, his imagery covers a variety of impressive material. However, Andre is internationally renown for his insightful and powerful celebrity portraits.

Andre continues to live in Paris, but travels extensively to capture such legendary icons as Catherine Deneuve, Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt, George Clooney to name a few.

In addition to shooting numerous memorable covers for such international publications as Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, GQ, Vanity Fair and Cosmopolitan, Andre has also contributed to the albums covers of international music sensations such as Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez among others.

Furthermore his images have appeared in international advertising campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Celine, L’Oreal, Estee Lauder and Lancome.

Amongst his various platforms, Andre Rau’s work has appeared in exhibitions and collections around the world. His portraits opened at Serge Sorroko Galleries in N.Y and San Francisco, Bunkamura Tokyo, Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin, Musee de la Publicitee in Paris and Museum fuer Angewandte Kunst in Cologne.
