Tonight was the season 6 finale of Supernatural, and it had quite the twist at the end, leaving fans in shock at the cliffhanger. However, despite that twist, one of the series regulars (and it's not like there are many of them) is not returning next season in that capacity.

Castiel's future

According to TVLine, Misha Collins, who plays the former-angel and now new God Castiel, won't be back as a series regular for season 7. Sera Gamble explained that what happened was "a very pivotal moment in Cas' development." She went on to say, "Basically, that's what we'll be exploring next season, so there's just a big change." So far Gamble has revealed that "Collins is expected to return for the Season 7 opener," but she hasn't said anything else because there's no way for her to "without giving away a lot about the premiere."

Does this mean that story line will be wrapped up in the first episode? Season 6 definitely ended on quite the cliffhanger, leaving fans wondering where Castiel will go from there. Does this all mean that the angels won't be part of Supernatural season 7? Gamble describes those parts of the show as "more self-enclosed" next year. The angel storyline was a big part of this season, though not much was shown of it until the end. During the beginning of the season, Castiel only briefly mentioned to Dean that he was involved in war, but it wasn't until "The Man Who Would Be King" that viewers learned just what happened between Cas and Raphael.

They would be foolish to get rid of Castiel after one episode. Misha Collins is a fan favorite, alot of people consider him to be a part of the family.

You also have to remember that Jim Beaver(Bobby) is not considered a series regular and never has, and yet he is in every other episode.

I'm not sure what to make of this season, definitely a crazy ending, but if Cas isn't a season regular for next year then this whole season will be pretty pointless

I was really disappointed by the last episode. The dude who play Crowley was perfect as usual and Sam 'i have only one expression" was as usual

I really hope "Castiel" is going to stay and stop his non sense about "I am God know, get on your knees or I shall kill you" *mean droopy look* Why he wants to be God (We are in 2011 dude, God id OVERrated!) when he can be a porn star along with Jensen? I can tape the whole thing and be the female leading role (u can be my body double Ophelia )

Anyway, i lovelove Supernatural & Jensen... especially Jensen! And agree with you Berno, a next season without Castiel will be pointless. Why turning him into a God with a big ego if it's to skip his character? They should send back Sam to Hell, we don't need him.

I blame Dean and the lack of him hugging his Angel as the reason that Cas went crazy.

Well Jared is cute but -& i say that in a very honest way- I love actors for their acting more than their looks and I think Jared is a mediocre actor IMO. As i said he only has one expression and he gives absolutely no depth to his character. And as Jensen is a real great actor Jared acting seems even more bland beside him. If SN wasn't a good show I won't even look at it even if the dudes are hot.

plus i think if anything it was just his "vessel" that got destroyed.

i still think that Lucifer is inside Sam. that it is not hallucinations. Anyone else notice how when Cas was still "god" and talking to Crowley he said they had to make sure Michael didn;t escape the cage. Nothing about Lucifer not escaping.
