Casillas: The ball did not want to go in!

Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas bemoaned the fact that his side could not convert any of the chances that fell their way.

Real were held to a 0-0 opening day draw at Mallorca - not quite the start to the Jose Mourinho era that fans would have been hoping for.

Casillas later admitted his side needed to improve but also rued the fact that luck just wasn't on their side.

In comments quoted by AS, he said: "There are things to improve but I like this team. We tried to score at all times, we had clear chances.

"We've been good defensively and well organised. Mallorca has sat back and played on the counter. We have done well and we will gradually improve. The ball did not want to go in."

Teammate Xabi Alonso refused to give any excused for his side's uninspiring performance."We have to take time to shape as a team but that's no excuse. It is a pity because we should have won," he said.

"The first half we had control of the ball but it was even and in the second domain and we had more good chances but could have come but we must continue. We must improve for the next game because there are things that improve upon."

However, the Spaniard refused to drawn into a discussion about Barcelona so early in the season.

"We should not become obsessed with Barcelona. We have to worry about us, we have the capacity to change and improve," he said.

Casillas, agreeing with Alonso, said: "Barca are playing in their way and we ours and we just need to think of the next game."

The next game is at the Santiago Bernabeu against Osasuna on September 12 after the international break.
