The male waif is dead and gone. All hail the neo-beefcake.
At least these are the words that resound in our heads in the presence of Mr Muirbrook. Perhaps we should drop the term “beefcake” altogether, as too much of that 1980s Venice Beach vision of the perfect male specimen springs to mind. A generation that is still lingering down there, looking a little out of breath. Sort of waddling, actually, so that their inner thighs don’t chafe so. Perhaps we should drop the whole beef metaphor, in fact. Yes, we really ought to as Mr Muirbrook is redefining the male physical ideal not only with his own body (he looks “ripped” but still lean enough to fit into a pair of Saint Laurent trousers), but also with the bodies of those celebrities we have spent whole hours of our lives wishing we looked like. He is literally forging our dreams through the pumping of iron and a host of probably far more complex activities. Need to get into optimum shape for your next role in that big-budget superhero flick, in which you’ll inevitably have to don some kind of catsuit? Muirbrook is your man. An especially nice, refreshingly honest man at that.

“I love the sun. And of course LA is the mecca of fitness.”

“I’m very shy.”

“I was badly bullied as a kid. I imagined the bigger and stronger I became the less they would pick on me. It didn’t exactly work as planned at the time, but I could probably kick their asses now.”

“Abs of steel, being superhuman and having perfectly manicured hair.”
What do you do to relax?
“I work out. It’s the time I get for myself each day and I love it.”

“Drink, eat, sleep.”

“Eat, drink, sleep.”

“Everyone thinks I don’t eat. I eat constantly.”

“Health food, but tequila on the rocks is my weakness.”
