A terrible Queen based on her actions & dialogue, then the conversation after Alicent talks to her father about Rhaenyra lying. Lastly was Rhaenyra's & Alicent's conversation before the wedding and afterwards she dons the green dress.

I'll have to rewatch these scenes.  Sir Otto reveals that his actions, besides ambition, was also based on trying to protect his daughter in case Rhaenyra turns on her in the future.

In looking closer I believe that the story of this dynasty will continue into Season 2.  It will not be resolved in Season 1.

Episode 5-10 will introduce new characters, in particular several royal children and there will be time jumps as they age from childhood, teenagers, and finally adulthood.

New actor for Laenor as well-  a taller and much older looking guy:

The way Sir Criton Cole develops is really abrupt and awkward.  He starts up as a likeable, decent friend and then turns unhinged in one episode.  Now he's essentially a different character.  I think it was quite possible to write his character in a more organic way.

Spoiler

This is consistent with what happens to him in the book.

Wait, I only realized now that we never got the Greens vs. Blacks tourney. That's odd.

It was okay. I like Olivia Cooke better as Alicent.

Blacks vs. Greens is what the two parties are called after the Tourney in honor of Viserys' wedding to Alicent. Named for the colors they wore at that occasion.

The only reference to that they included was Alicent's green dress last episode (at Rhaenyra's wedding instead of her own wedding).

IIRC, Cole is also to knock Breakbones off his horse in the joust at that tourney, which is meant to be the start of their rivalry.

It is very weird they included almost none of that in the show.

Oh you read the book?  I should look at it when I have time.

I miss Milly already.  She was great as Princess R.

Her replacement is a competent actress but I feel like she is very different from Milly, lacking her playful wit.  I just find them two different women, and not an older version of the same woman.  Her husband straight up is a different guy too.

Alicent is a quite miserable woman now.

This episode moves super fast.  So many pivotal things in just 70 minutes.   I haven't finished the episode yet, will comment more later.

Finished the episode.

I got to say that it'll take another episode or two for me to warm up to these aged up actors.  My mind is still connected to their younger versions.

I like the children.  This new arc reminds me of the Vikings TV show, where we had the children of the first generation being introduced- then eventually their adult forms.  So there will be adult actors for all these kids in later episodes.

Aegon II is looking to be a future deviant.  I hope young-adult Aemond makes it this season, he looks badass and will be one of the chief characters.

Spoiler
Spoiler

The deaths of numerous characters comes as a surprise to me and is way too fast.  We barely got to know them.  The two Strongs are now dead- both Harold and his father, the Hand of the King.  Daemon's wife is dead.  We barely knew her outside of 2 scenes before this episode.

King V is looking very frail.

Clubfoot is well performed and menacing, and utterly looks the part. But wow, such a jump from the previous 2 episodes.  It's rather jarring, and it will take getting used to.

As a littlefinger derivative he is just as witty but in a very creepy/unsettling way.  Littlefinger was a mustache-twirling villain that was fun to watch.

Ah, I found the casting for the young adult versions of the kids.

cool, they got the guy from the Dunkirk and King movie to play Aegon II.

There is a claim (allegedly from the showrunners, I haven't read the article) that the show is supposed to be 3-4 seasons.  Probably 3 IMHO given what's in the book.

My absolute favorite moment in the last episode was the little smile Daemon gave Aemond right after he caused the scene during the dinner when he used the name of their biological father to refer to his nephews (Rhaenyra's kids). It was like a little smirk of recognition at the kind of bullshit Daemon likes to engage in himself. It's probably no coincidence that their first names are anagrams of each other.
