Guti Insists Capello Must Stay On

Guti has backed coach Fabio Capello to stay at Real Madrid next season after a stand-off over his future with the club was revealed after the final game of the season.

With Bernd Schuster rumoured to have signa pre-contract agreement to take over in July, neither Capello or Madrid officials were willing to make any commitments to each other.

After clinching the league title on Sunday, Guti said that he wants the Italian to stay and believes that it would be a popular choice.

"I would be happy if he stayed and I think the majority of Madrid fans would agree if they were asked," the 30-year-old said.

Guti then admitted that he was pleased to hear sections of the Bernabéu crowd calling for him to be brought on during the first half against Mallorca.

"It was really great that the supporters were calling for me," he continued.

After being introduced at the start of the second half, Guti helped Madrid come from behind to win the game and edge out Barça in the championship race.

"The game was hard going at the start, like in previous encounters, but in the end we won and that is what is most important," he concluded.
