I am feeling so helpless right now.

I was in New Orleans just last summer and I know the city will never be the same after the next 24 hours. My Heart and Prayers go out to the wonderful and fun loving people of New Orleans.

Wow that was really nice to say. I live in Louisiana. New Orleans wasn't hit as bad as thought it would be. The city's pumps worked, and a lot of the water has been drained. Families haven't returned to the city yet. I went to a shelter today to bring some water, and well they were eating some good ole' gumbo and still fun loving.

I was wrong, part of the levee broke. Now 80% of the city is underwater. You were right, part of the city will never be the same. It's a sad thought.

I find it quite depressing. I mean I don't know what to do to help these people. I want to help them. Two of my cousins are currently in New Orleans baggin bodies. I talked on one of them on the phone today, and he said his infantry bagged over 200 bodies already. The news is saying only 2 confirmed dead in New Orleans, but the number is well over that.

I seriously doubt the media is lying. So much is uncertain right now its too soon to be bashing the media for giving us information they don't have. I actually prefer that the media wait to get the numbers right before they start putting them up. As far as I know they have only confirmed the 100 dead in Mississippi cause they were easy to reach and identify. The rest, obviously, will take a long time. I fear that when this is all over, the death toll will be topped only by September 11th in Modern US History. God help us if it is more.

I am peachy. Yet then again, I am not. I am a little annoyed about your assumptions of the media. I am wondering, what media group are you talking about specifically. If you want the hard truth of it all, unbiased and everything, keep an eye on AP's homepage. They deliver the shit when they get it, no ifs, ands, buts about it. When it comes to everybody else, you have to expect some sort of spinning, but I know the comapines such as FOX and MSNBC do NOT want to lie to us. If they do, it is out of pure ignorance and/or uncorrobrated speculation.

You have to remember, Neo . . . the media thrives on being able to pride itself on bringing the truth to the public as quickly as possible. All American companies operate this way.

Neo, don't twist my words, thats very childish of you to call anybody who relies on and even trusts CNN for example brainwashed. CNN, to me, has always been very reliable and trustworthy, with very little spinning such as FOX (conservitive) and MSNBC (liberal).

In anycase, if all your going to do is insult me, this conversation is over . . .

lets talk war....and media....when they say 5 died....its not 5 its like triple that digit....thats what i mean when i say i dont believe the media when it envolves death...its always more than what they say...i read the L.A Times and I watch CNN...i stay away from fox because its a tad bit conservative for me.

Okay, that seems logical, but I think the pendalum swings both ways here. This morning I remember hearing (on MSNBC I think) that new estimates for possible death tolls could reach up to 30% of the 200,000 trapped in New Orleans alone. Is that underestimating?

In situations like war and Katrina, the media, for the most part, looks at every angle and presents to their veiwers 1 of 2 options, the most dramatic (i.e. worst case scenario) or the most likely (i.e. projected). I can't possibly see how an underestimate would bother you, since this is not something the networks are looking to present to the community.

That makes for bad TV.

I hope that makes sence. Thats what I always try to do, think about what makes sence.
