its totally my fault...i dont like the underestimated deaths...cuz when they say oh lets say 15 and its really 40....i hate that, cuz i consider it lying.

We'll think about it on their side. What do they think their viewers would rather here, 15, or 40?

ok so it hurts more in iraq since im half iraqi...and if they say 10 iraqis died but its like more. ![]()

Yes, on that note you can alway's assume there are more, but I hardly blame the media for that. The U.S. Military tends to be the ugly back side when it comes to the Iraqi deathtoll, in mainpart because they are trying win over the people of that nation.
Many Iraqi's are not properly registered with a government agency, therefore they may be difficult to identify, hence the difficulty of giving proper estimates on death tolls to the news media.
Not to mention after you have been blown up by a bomb with 60 other people, try counting how many people are actually there after that, and are in sufficient shape to even be identified. The military gives an accurate estimate, not to mention international human rights orginizations are also on the scene to give their accounts to the media, so the final ruling is not necessarily the military. All kinds of things factor in.
On another note, where are the alternate "true" death figures which you site, coming from? The 5 actually means 15 reports? It makes no sense to make claims when you have no hard facts to back them up or even loose facts to back them up. The news on the other hand does most of the time have legitimate reports, which contain actual data given to them (regardless of whether it is in actuality below or above the actual body count, they have tangible evidence that there are in fact bodies, as well as tangible data). Where as, the average american deciding not to believe the news info he/she hears, gets their "actual true info" from where? I don't see it being possible that anyone, that doesn't know a high ranking official or someone on the inside could possibly, be getting special inside info about altered body counts.
Until that happens it's all speculation and what you choose to believe. I would prefer to believe in something that has been at least shown to be some what researched i.e, the news, instead of wild speculation fueled by who knows what other ulterior motives.
An example of wild speculation recently in the news, would be Cindy Sheehan. She has absolutely no credible evidence to back her claims, which include Genocide of the Iraqi people, by the United States government. Her plight began, because she wanted answers about her son's death, and because of mis-information and exaggerated reports given to her by so called "sympathizers", she has been led astray from what she originally came to do. Because she is in the spotlight, the more people she can get her ideas into, the more people have just recieved skewed information. Wild fantasies about things you have no hard facts about, quickly turn intom a reason to spread falsities about other things, such as over exaggerated death tolls. These are common anti-war tactics used to garner attention as well as support for anti-war movements.
People should look at the news objectively, and have the thought in mind that of course it may not be fully accurate, but it's better and based on more fact than just thinking you're right just because you think they are wrong.
It reminds me of that telephone game, they used to play in elementary school. One person in the front of the class thinks of a sentence and then tells the person behind them, and so on and so forth, until it has reached the last person in the classroom, and by then the sentence no longer resembles what it first started as. People tend to have heard what they think they know, from someone in the know, but what they don't think about is that person heard it from someone, who heard it from someone, and on up the line to the original source, and by the time it has reached your ears, it's completely distorted.
There is a reason I try to never get involved with these discussions, and people claiming things that they have no evidence to back up is just it. It's a never ending argument because those people are adamant about their position, and trying to convince those people to see things with a wider eye, is near impossible.
Of course people's specualtion and trust of news channels, varies depending on the subject matter. People are going to be less likely to believe the news when it has something to do with conflict (Iraq(Fear & Hatred)) as opposed to disaster (New Orleans(Sympathy & Hope). I believe these internal parenthesis to be the two genuine emotions people tend to feel during the two respective occurences, and have a great effect on how someone percieves information relayed to them, or the decision to discard any legitmate info, for their own idea of what's really going on.

Reason and Logic, excellent writing, Capt.
