Good job it wasn't Wes Brown, would have been a six-month lay-off.
Big Darren off to Fulham for the season. I'll go to my grave saying this (not literally) but there's an alternate reality out there in which Martin O'Neill buys him instead of Heskey and we make it to the top 4 and a wonderful new dawn begins. Still, when you think of the dire situation we were in when he actually did arrive he really did all we could ask of him: keep us up, which in itself made him worth the money. Anyway now we're two managers further down the line and the mandate (in tactics but mainly wage bill) has changed and so our time together must end.

The way Wenger and Arsenal have gone about doing business this summer 3-1 is a poor result for Villa
Joke of a summer.

Well, credit where it's due, Fulham dominated us for the four seconds it took to take their corner. We were only on top for the remaining 94:56. Not exactly the start we were hoping for then, but a much better all-round effort than anything I saw last season, with the new signings mostly looking the part. Still plenty of room for improvement, though, and the wretched run of home games we'll now have to negotiate is a concern. Crying out for a creative midfielder to play alongside the beastly Cabral and, as has been the case since dinosaurs roamed the earth, a proper left-back.
Superb win for Villa yesterday (the new away kit reminds me of battenburg - the cake not the referee), Arsenal and Arsene Wenger reaching borderline dangerous levels of self-parody at present.
P.S. I love you, Simon Mignolet. ![]()
P.P.S. Nice teeth, Brendan.
I loathe the new away strip and all its ghastly Bristol Rovers connotations but if we play like that in it then I'll gladly buy a few to help pay off Stephen Ireland's fur coat habit.

Sweet assist by De Bruyne on Chelsea's first goal today.

Spurs kicking asses already.

Celtic beaten 2-0 by Kazakhstani side Shakhtyor Karaganda in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier tonight [insert Borat joke in here].
Newcastle beaten 4-0 by Man City last night [insert Joe Kinnear].

PSV were a joy to watch vs. Milan, especially in the first half.
Had they a better forward (or just one who holds the ball up well) they would be truly formidable.
Too bad, Cocu's young side is likely to be gutted next Summer (if not earlier).

He's from Brazil, Willian's his name and he's coming to play on White Hart Lane.
I call him will.i.an, I assumed "we" all did.

Benteke, two games, three goals.
And that was with Ivanovic being allowed to basically elbow him in the face and neck all game.
Two games in and we've already seen what will be the worst refereeing display of the season. Pathetic but oh so predictable.

Villa look good, they'll have a good season ahead.

Kick, stamp, hack and elbow the living daylights out of your opponents? Mourinho must think he's still managing at Madrid.
So much for the mooted Arsenal apocalypse last night, Fenerbahce looked absolutely dire.

I bet Wenger has actually only offered £2.6m for Di Maria and whoever looks after Madrid's transfer dealings has read it wrong.

Welcome 11th summer signing, we've been expecting you!

Lord knows Chelsea needed another attacking midfielder.
