Spike Lee Says Lily Gladstone Deserves to Win the Oscar: “She’s Got My Vote”
Lily Gladstone was said to be the Supporting Actress frontrunner for her wonderful turn in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” but that’s no more. Gladstone was submitted as Lead Actress by Apple, a total surprise move on the streamer’s part.
Spike Lee has seen “Killers of the Flower Moon” and thinks it’s a “great film.” He also believes that Gladstone can win the Oscar, calling her performance a “lead role”:
“Well, you know, Scorsese, that’s my guy. “Killers of the Flower Moon” is a great film. That Native American woman, Lily Gladstone, she’s winning an Oscar. And I don’t think that’s a supporting role. I think that’s a leading role. She’s got my vote.”
I will admit that Gladstone’s performance in ‘Killers’ is very much a supporting turn, but the film is 206 minutes and she does have a lot of screen time. It helps that her sad-eyed performance as Lily Burkhart is absolutely sublime. In fact, Lily is the emotional center of the story. It makes sense.
I'm always hyped for a new Leo movie. But this time I have to say expectations are even higher than usual. Can't wait for next thursday

Francis Ford Coppola Calls Martin Scorsese “The World’s Greatest Living Filmmaker”
In celebration of this month’s release for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” a critics poll of Martin Scorsese’s best films should be published next week. What film will top the poll? “Taxi Driver”? “Raging Bull”? “Goodfellas”?
Francis Ford Coppola went on Instagram to rave about his friend’s new film, but has also distinguished Scorsese with a title that I would say many of our readers could agree on:
“My longtime friend [Martin Scorsese] has a new film coming out this month, “Killers of the Flower Moon” — He is a wonderful person and the world’s greatest living filmmaker. His new film delivers on every level.”
So, “the world’s greatest living filmmaker.” I believe that’s not any sort of reach on the part of Coppola. Scorsese is a legend, a national treasure, and we’re lucky to be alive at a time when he’s still making films at this fairly top-notch kind of level.
What other legendary filmmaker still alive today matches Scorsese’s towering filmography? I can’t think of any.
Some of the other great ones include Spielberg, Lynch, PTA, Malick, Coen, Eastwood, Allen, Polanski, Almodovar, Haneke and Coppola himself (who would be a close second in my books), but none have had the kind of impressive longevity.

Killers of the Flower Moon Box Office Prediction
Martin Scorsese's highly-anticipated movie Killers of the Flower Moon is on track to be a worthwhile theatrical release for Apple TV+. It's been a decade since one of Martin Scorsese's movies hit at the box office, as The Wolf of Wall Street became his highest-grossing movie in 2013. He has found plenty of success before then, especially through the movies that star Leonardo DiCaprio, as Killers of the Flower Moon does. DiCaprio is the star of Scorsese's five biggest box office hits, and there is optimism that Killers of the Flower Moon will add a sixth collaboration to that success.
Killers of the Flower Moon's box office tracking is set at $24 million for its opening weekend according to Deadline. This is lower than the estimated $27M-$36M range from Box Office Pro. It would not be surprising if the latter proves to be more accurate if Killers of the Flower Moon's reviews continue to rave about Scorsese's latest. If everything goes better than expected, breaking the director's opening weekend record of Shutter Island's $41M could be in the cards. That is why a $140M domestic total is possible, which would also be a record for the legendary director.
