Although Weaver has played a number of critically acclaimed roles in movies like Gorillas in the Mist, The Ice Storm, Dave, and The Year of Living Dangerously, she is best known for her appearances as Ellen Ripley in the blockbuster "Alien" movie franchise. Her first appearance as Ripley was in 1979 film Alien. She reprised the role in three sequels, Aliens, Alien³, and Alien: Resurrection. She was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for portraying Ripley in Aliens. She also starred in two films in 1988, receiving Academy Award nominations for her roles in Working Girl and in Gorillas in the Mist.
Weaver also appeared in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. She played the role of the agoraphobic criminal psychologist in the 1995 movie Copycat, and went on to become the most highly paid actress of the 1990s. In addition to her trademark role as Ripley, Weaver has recently concentrated on smaller, more challenging roles such as 1999's A Map of the World. Other recent work includes 2006's Snowcake. Critics have also noted her consistent performances in comedic roles, such as in Jeffrey (1994), Galaxy Quest (1999), and Heartbreakers (2001).
In 1997, Weaver won the BAFTA Award for her supporting role in The Ice Storm. That year, she also played in Holes. In 2006, Weaver returned to Rwanda for the BBC special Gorillas Revisited.
In 2008, Weaver plays the Mom in the TV film Prayers for Bobby, due to air February 2009. In addition to her Academy Award nomination for Aliens, Weaver has received two other nominations in her career. She did not win either award, but was awarded a Golden Globe.

Lisi began her film career in her teens, in 1953. Cast more for her beauty than her talent, her early films included La Donna del Giorno (1956), Eva (1962), and the Italian-made spectacle Romolo e Remo (1961).
Lisi made a dent in Hollywood comedy as a tempting blue-eyed blonde starring opposite Jack Lemmon in How to Murder Your Wife (1965), and appearing with Tony Curtis in Not with My Wife, You Don't! (1966). Confined to glamour roles, she returned to Europe within a few years, but fared little better in such mediocre movies as Arabella (1967). In Europe she starred in films such as La Ragazza e il Generale, co-starring with Rod Steiger, and two films with Anthony Quinn, The Secret of Santa Vittoria, directed by Stanley Kramer, and the war drama The 25th Hour.
In later decades, however, a career renaissance occurred for Virna, culminating with the film La Reine Margot (1994). Portraying a malevolent Catherine de' Medici, she won both the César and Cannes Film Festival awards, along with the David di Donatello award, the Italian equivalent of the Oscar.
