Hawn began her acting career as a cast member of the Good Morning, World during the 1967-1968 television season. Her next role, which brought her to international attention, was as one of the regular cast members on the 1960s Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. Noted equally for her chipper attitude as for her bikini and painted body, Hawn personified something of a 1960s "It" girl. This persona was parlayed into three popular film appearances in the late 1960s and early 1970s: Cactus Flower, There's a Girl in My Soup and Butterflies Are Free. She made her feature film debut in the 1968 The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family... Hawn won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Cactus Flower (1969), which was her first supporting role.

After Academy Award win in April 1970, her film career took off. She starred in There's a Girl in My Soup (1970), $ (1971), Butterflies Are Free (1972) and Shampoo (1975) as well as proving herself in the dramatic league with the satirical dramas The Girl from Petrovka and The Sugarland Express both in 1974. The latter was a sort of comeback for Goldie who had been out of the spotlight for two years since the 1976 release of The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox. Foul Play which became a box office smash and revived Hawn's career in the film industry. Hawn's next film, Lovers and Liars (1979), was a box office bomb.

Hawn's popularity continued into the 1980's starting with Private Benjamin (1980) which garnered Hawn her second Academy Award nomination, this time for Best Actress. Hawn's box office success continued with an assortment of pictures, including comedies like Seems Like Old Times (1980), Protocol (1984) and Wildcats (1986) and dramas like Best Friends (1982) and Swing Shift (1984).

Her career slowed down after 1987, but was revived somewhat in 1990 with the action comedy Bird on a Wire, a critically panned but commercially successful. The early 90's weren't particularly good to Hawn, with little success associated with the thriller Deceived (1991) or the drama CrissCross (1992). But her success in 1992 with Death Becomes Her garnered her much attention. Following up that was HouseSitter (1992), which again ventured into commercial and critical success. She made her entry back into the film business with producing the satirical comedy Something to Talk About.

She returned to the screen again in 1996 in financially and critically successful The First Wives Club. She continued her tenure in the 90's with Everyone Says I Love You (1996) The Out-of-Towners (1999) which was critically panned and bombed at the box office.

In 2001 Hawn played in Town & Country, a critical and financial fiasco. Budgeted at an estimated US$90 million, the film opened to little notice and grossed only $7 million in its North American theatrical run. As of 2008, her last film appearance was in the 2002 The Banger.

Hawn announced in an interview with AARP's magazine that her next film project would be called Ashes to Ashes.

Her performance is acknowledged as one of the most powerful on-screen debuts in film history. After To Have and Have Not, Bacall was seen in the critically panned Confidential Agent (1945). She then appeared in the film noir The Big Sleep (1946), the thriller Dark Passage (1947), and Key Largo (1948). She was cast in Bright Leaf (1950).

For her leads in a string of films she received favorable reviews. Young Man with a Horn (1950) is often considered the first big-budget jazz film. Bacall starred in How to Marry a Millionaire in 1953, a runaway hit. Bacall got positive notices for her turn as the witty gold-digger, Schatze Page.

Written on the Wind, directed by Douglas Sirk in 1956, is now considered a classic tear-jerker. Bacall starred in the 1957 slapstick comedy Designing Woman for rave reviews. Bacall's movie career waned in the 1960s, and she was only seen in a handful of films. But on Broadway she starred in Goodbye, Charlie (1959), Cactus Flower (1965), Applause (1970) and Woman of the Year (1981). She won Tony Awards for her performances in the latter two. The few movies Bacall shot during this period were all-star vehicles such as Sex and the Single Girl (1964), Harper (1966), and Murder on the Orient Express (1974).

For her work in the Chicago theatre, she won the Sarah Siddons Award in 1972 and again in 1984. In 1976, Bacall co-starred with John Wayne in his last picture, The Shootist. They had previously been cast together in 1955's Blood Alley. During the 1980's, Bacall appeared in the poorly received star vehicle The Fan (1981) as well as Health (1980) and Appointment with Death (1988). In 1997, Bacall was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role in The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996), for which she had already won a Golden Globe.

She received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1997. In 1999, she was voted one of the 25 most significant female movie stars in history by the American Film Institute. Since then, her movie career has seen a new renaissance and she has attracted respectful notices for her performances in high-profile projects such as Dogville (2003), The Limit (2003), and Birth (2004). She is one of the leading actors in 2007 The Walker.

In March 2006, she was seen at the 78th Annual Academy Awards introducing a film montage dedicated to the film noir genre. She also made a cameo appearance on The Sopranos in April 2006. In September 2006, Bacall was awarded the first Katharine Hepburn Medal, which recognizes "women whose lives, work and contributions embody the intelligence, drive and independence of the four-time-Oscar-winning actress", by Bryn Mawr College's Katharine Houghton Hepburn Center.

After being nominated for a Tony Award for Play It Again, Keaton made her film debut in 1970s Lovers and Other Strangers. She followed with guest roles on the television series Love, American Style and Night Gallery. Keaton's breakthrough role was in 1972 blockbuster The Godfather. Two years later she reprised her role in The Godfather, Part II. Keaton's other notable films of the 1970s are Sleeper, Love and Death, Interiors, Manhattan, and the film version of Play It Again, Sam.

In 1977, Keaton starred in Annie Hall, in which she played one of her most famous roles. The film was both a major financial and critical success, and she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Later that year, she departed from her usual comic roles when she accepted a role in Looking for Mr. Goodbar.

In 1984, The Little Drummer Girl, Keaton's unsuccessful first excursion into the thriller and action genre, was both a financial and critical failure. Two years later she starred in Crimes of the Heart. She starred in her first commercial vehicle with 1987's Baby Boom. That same year she made a cameo in Radio. 1988's The Good Mother was a misstep for Keaton. The film was a financial disappointment.

In the 1990s she shifted to more mature roles. She began the decade with The Lemon Sisters, a poorly received comedy/drama that she starred in and produced. In 1991, Keaton starred in the 1991 family comedy Father of the Bride, which was Keaton's first major hit after four years of commercial disappointments. Keaton reprised her role four years later in the sequel.

Keaton also reprised her role in 1990s The Godfather, Part III. In 1993 Keaton starred in Manhattan Murder Mystery. Keaton's most successful film of the decade was the 1996 comedy The First Wives Club. The film was a major success grossing US$105 million at the North American box office. Reviews of the film were generally positive. Also in 1996, Keaton appeared in Marvin's Room. Keaton earned her third Academy Award nomination for the film.

Keaton's first film of 2000 was Hanging, rated poorly with critics, and grossed a modest US$36 million at the North American box office. In 2001 Keaton played in Town & Country, a critical and financial fiasco. Budgeted at an estimated US$90 million, the film opened to little notice and grossed only $7 million in its North American theatrical run.

In 2001 and 2002 Keaton starred in four low-budget television films. She played in Sister Mary Explains It All, On Thin Ice, Plan B and Crossed Over. Keaton's first major hit since 1996 came in 2003's Something's Gotta Give. The film was a major success at the box office, grossing US$125 million in North America. The following year, Keaton received her fourth Academy Award nomination for her role in the film.

Most recently, Keaton starred in the moderately successful 2005 comedy The Family Stone. Her latest film, Because I Said So, opened on February 2, 2007 to poor reviews.

In 1967, Bisset was cast in the movie Two for the Road. Next, she participated in the James Bond satire, Casino Royale (1967). In 1968, Mia Farrow dropped out of the movie The Detective (1968), and the role went to Bisset. That same year, she was cast opposite Steve McQueen in Bullitt, and appeared in the 1970 disaster film Airport.

In 1973, she appeared in Day for Night, where she earned the respect of European critics and moviegoers as a serious actress. She is the main character in La donna della domenica in 1975. In 1977, Bisset made strides towards becoming a better-known entertainer in America with her movie The Deep (1977). About that time, a small Dutch-produced film she had made some years earlier was re-released in the United States under the title Secrets. That featured the only extensive nude scenes of Bisset's career and the producers cashed in on her fame.

By 1978, she was a household name. She earned her first Golden Globe nomination for the comedy Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? Soon thereafter, she played in the movies Rich and Famous (1981) and Under the Volcano (1984), for which she earned her a second Golden Globe nomination. In 1996, she was nominated for a César Awar, France's version of the Oscars, for her role in La Cérémonie. Several of her movies are French or Italian productions.

Bisset has appeared in made-for-TV movies, especially during the past 10 years. One of her later TV movies, in 2003, was America's Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story, in which she portrayed Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Bisset's most recent television work was a recurring role as the mysterious James, during the fourth season of the FX series Nip/Tuck.
