my word turns my caps lock off on its own
I got a message today from a user having trouble subscribing to a topic. He's trying to subscribe to the General Swimwear and Lingerie threads in Petra's subforum, but it keeps returning this error, which it did for me when I tried to subscribe also.
He sent me a screenshot showing me that he is subscribed to the other threads in the subforum already, but he is not currently subscribed to either of those two topics, yet it tells him he is.
So anyone have any suggestions on how he might be able to rectify his problem. Maybe unsubscribing himself from all of Petra's threads, and then trying to subscribe to the forum as a whole instead of individual threads?
Been trying to figure out what the problem is for a few hours now, messing with my own settings and I can't get it to accept the subscription.

It actually let me subscribe, so I think he should try unsubscribing and then going in and resubscribing. If that doesn't work, we can poke around some more.
Or you know, I could take that back. It's not popping up in the list. o.O That is very weird. I'll poke around and see if I can find anything. Maybe someone else will also have some sort of idea.
GreedyGrandpa decided he didn't feel like waiting for an answer to his question in the search function topic, so he messaged me to try and get a quicker answer. Considering I don't actually know the reason for search flood control, just speculation, I figured maybe one of you is better equipped to give me that info to pass on. ![]()
Hey,I just have a really quick question. I asked it in the "search function" thread and left it for a day or two, but I'm too impatient to wait any longer.

What is the purpose of the search flood control? The thing that makes you wait 20 seconds between searches. I don't mind it, I just wondered, 'cause I've seen it a lot on forums, and yet I've never seen any explanation of what it achieves.

If I remember my database/server classes right, it's more or less to control the amount of data being requested from the servers and enables the servers to work more effiecently and keeps it from overflowing, and becoming laggy or shutting down completely.
Think of it as flood control in cities. They build the dams, and other random things whose names escape me to keep the water under control. So when it's monsoon season, or you're getting runoff from the mountains in spring, that water comes rushing down but is contained and controlled instead of flooding the city.

um, Ill try to explain it as best I can
Essentialy when you do a search it searches through every single post made for that keyword, now as you can imagine thats a lot of words to process, so its pretty heavy on the servers. Now if there was no flood control and someone wanted either to make the servers really really slow or just make them crash, they could send millions of search requests a second which would bring the server to its knees. So thus the 20 sec flood control, although I suppose we could make it 10 secs if that would make people more happy.
More or less what I had figured myself, just didn't know for certain.
I think he is probably the only person who has even noticed the flood control.
I really don't know why he insists on wanting to know these types of things, but I guess I'll relay that on so he doesn't bother every one of you with the same message. ![]()

I would not suggest reducing the flood control on searches. 20 seconds is a good amount.

Alright, I went digging to figure out this email problem, with most of the erorrs loged, it returned this message, which isn't all that helpful:
IPB ERROR: Could not send the email
SMTP CODE: No Info
SMTP ERROR: No Info
Most of the errors were topic notifications, outside of Capt's lost password today (which wasn't listed).
On another note, what I find weird is there were a whole bunch of errors in March, one in May, and a whole bunch in June. There's nothing for this month at all. I'll keep digging and see what I can find.

Yes, it started when we hit 100,000 attachments I think
Not sure why, but yeah. If you want to post more than 3 on a line now, you should put a space in between the attachments. ![]()
When I try to edit Brenlynn's signature I get the following:

We have some MySQL errors coming up when searches are attempted. ![]()

Admins change your passwords since we are still getting that little speck at the top of bellazon thats causing all the problems. ![]()
