I don't think (and we've talked about this before) that morality comes from religion, or that religion is necessary in order to have it.
And while the gay marriage issue is just one thing it's a good example of the close minded attitude the church has shown through the centuries, which has hold back many progress and caused the deaths of many. And this can be extrapolated to other faiths too, not just christianity.
Also, organized does not necessarily equals institutionalized. At least not in the way I was referring to with the question. Institutionalized religions as those we have today have long since become instruments of power and used many times under political interests.
And anyway an organization or institution based on a dogmatic way of thinking is just not of my liking.
