It's not linked to picture hosts. I post all my pictures directly to BZ, and all of those I resized are distorted (most probably, because the server compresses them back to a height of 300px, without keeping the initial ratio).
If you want instances, look at basically all of the pictures I put in the 1st posts of my threads are resized pictures that were posted directly to BZ. They are all distorted, like here:

Yes, I think so too. They are forced to a max height of 300 without keeping the original ratio. It bothers me a lot, because that concerns a couple of thousands pics.
If you click on the pics does it take you to a full size, undistorted image? If so then I don't think it's a big deal.

I fail to see your point. This forum is about models; not chess playing or scuba diving. On a forum about models, having distorted pics is an issue. Let's say you are an IT guy who just delivered a website to a modelling agency, and all their models look distorted. I'm sure you'll never tell them "don't worry, it's OK when people click on the pics".
For a model, her image is important. Many models here are not "super famous"; if they look weird in their threads, it's their "image" that gets distorted. A model I know already asked me why her pics are weird.
Then again, nothing is a big deal. Having your search function fixed is not a big deal either, then.

Isn't it the big picture that matters though? Everyone knows thumbnails aren't going to be perfect.

No. When you think "model", you probably think about superfamous models who wouldn't care (and who would've already had an army of defenders to solve their issues). But most models are talents who struggle to be known. Some people come here to discover models by just giving a glance. If they see distorted weird pics, they might just not look at the thread at all.
Anyway, if you fail to see this point, that's not a big deal. Just benevolently forget about all of it, as it doesn't cost you anything to see other members' problems being solved.

That still doesn't explain the reason your pictures that you posted are distorted and the pictures I post aren't.

That's because I resize them. You post pictures without doing anything on them, so they are automatically embedded. For some pictures, I do a "resizing", i.e. I give them a height of more than 300 px.

It used to work before (like three weeks ago). Pics were both resized and fine. I'm not the only one who has experienced this.
It could be due to maddogg transferring BZ and it's data to a different server or after BZ got an update and certain things/functions are buggy. 
^ Sure, that's linked to something that happenned on the server (update, transfer or new functions) around June 19, because that's when the pics started to look weird.
Sorry everyone, I have been on vacation, I will be back on Friday and hopefully I will get all these issues sorted shortly after.
