I wish Alyssa was more famous because then she would deserve the cover. I was thinking they might put Alyssa and Nina on the cover together and that's why they tried to promote them as buddies. But double cover girls is still unlikely. Nina is more famous so she is more likely to get it.
I feel SI never played to Alyssa's strength. She may be nice but she doesn't really look like the girl next door. She looks more like the girl in the apartment next door who laughs at your shyness when you see her and has sex really loud.
She does a good job but I wish her shoots were a bit more serious and moody. Like Stephanie here:

But I guess women are trying to turn the magazine into more of a swimsuit catalog and less of a......uh..... a celebration of women's bodies?
Alyssa is more sexy than Nina. Alyssa looks more womanly, dreamy, exotic & has the mysterious sexy stare that says I want you; Her eyes are more expressive than Nina. Both have biutiful bodies. Nina is more of a pretty girl, she looks more like a teenager that like to have fun; Her look is more common & Alyssa look is more unique. I which Alyssa was more popular too. I wouldn't want 2 girls been on the cover. I prefer Alyssa been on the cover.
I'd have been okay with either of them on the cover this year.
I hope one of them gets it next year, though based on what we have seen and heard since the publication, I think Nina has a far better chance than Alyssa.

... remember how awesome we thought Genevieve would be after seeing her SASI stuff? And the SI came out and most of us were like NO.
maybe that says more about the quality of the SISA photography / editing / production compared to the american version
almost every SISA model that ended up in the american version had a better portfolio in the SA version. of course, they were younger then, that often helps.
Even if they were younger it was no more than a couple of years.
I find much of the stylistic choices for the SI issues rather boring, especially in recent years.
I think this year had the best styling SI has done in years. But yeah the previous years it wasn't great, specially last year was very WTF.
Genevieve did SI & SASI at the same time and she looked wonderful in SASI but her her first SI shoot in 2009 was horrible IMO so age has nothing to do with it.
ok, just to recap:
mj day first tweeted pics of the 2013 shoots in mid-may 2012, so we may be seeing those start up again in the coming weeks. it looks like they've gathered a lot of the swimsuits but haven't traveled yet.
up to this point they've posted 18 casting calls in about 50 days, but they're almost a month behind on posting, as emily ratajkowski's casting call was on march 28 but the blog post was on april 22. i expect they've got anywhere from 5-20 more castings to post.
It was because they had eight locations last year and they do one location every month until December/January, so they rushed everything (castings & photoshoots) but the previous years I don't think we ever got pictures before late-June or early-July.
I think probably by the time they start shooting they will be done posting casting calls because castings will be obviously over, but that's just me.
yeah plus Mj and Darcie always go to the Miami Swim week ( i think is in july) to pick swimsuit brands for the issue later than that they start to go to locations.
