I just uploaded a new video!

This is a cover of Iron Maiden (by katchitup's suggestion, and one of the winners of a poll I made): RUN TO THE HILLS

I hope you like it! Feel free to comment and to share it!

I have long experience of studying history of several types as a personal imperative my whole life and what I gather is this: There is always bias, and much that is published is not without some bias.  The bias could be just 49/51 but it'll be there.  Naturally, people, including professional academic historians, favor one group over another, even if it is just slightly.

It should be harder to root for..the tribal types, wouldn't it?  I tend to side with the more 'civilized and progressive' even if it is imperial.  I don't have sophisticated views about the Romans though, since I am not educated in this area.  i like Gladiator a lot, LOL.

With eastern front history, for instance- I have a visceral dislike of the Nazis and the Waffen SS (military arm of the SS) but my dislike is milder when dealing with the German regular Army (who weren't choir boys either).  I don't dislike the Soviets, NKVD/police state, and Red Army as much, but I see them as completely without feeling or valuing the life of a person.  In a nutshell, they were evil.  I have however, admiration for the courage of the soviet people in combat and their ability to endure hardship and suffering.  I also respect the tough but effective generalship of the soviet artillery and armored forces in the later stage of the war and soviet military science. These contradictions are wrapped around the fact that I respect the intelligence and fighting skill of officer corps of the German Army and particular the abilities of the panzertruppen even though they were fighting a criminal war and used criminal methods.

So when i read eastern front operational or unit history, my allegiances kind of 'shift' to various sides based on what permutation of criteria is available.

The bias, even though in my case it is quite small, can be pretty complicated.

Looks really interesting! I just downloaded it, I'll read it soon. And I'll read about the actual events too so I have a better idea about them when reading the comics.

When I started reading Roman history I definitely rooted for the Romans. Now I try to be more neutral when reading history, be it Rome or any other subject.

I hope you'll like it as much as I did.  The art is fantastic.  I don't know much about the struggle between the tribes and the Romans, but if you wiki the name of the doomed Roman leader and the tribal leader and read the links for 'the battle of teutonberg forest' it should be enough.  The book is easy to understand.  This series is high quality and unfortunately the artist only released the next part every 2 years.  The series ends when the tribal leader returns to his people and starts to incite a unified rebellion so the series is incomplete- perhaps only half way or more.

Interestingly enough, (according the wiki, ...IF it is accurate) Arminius accomplished this in his early 20s.  A bit of a rockstar.. :neo2:

Just in case you are interested: This book was being bidded for $400 plus for a long time until Stackpole got the rights and reprinted it this year.

It's a remarkable book and the most enthralling piece of military history I've ever read.  To me, it is about a very special subject and about a special group:  It's about the most intense and costly battle of the war and perhaps even all of human history and it follows the 'assault spearhead' of the offensive.

Here are my 53 pages (double spaced) of notes.  I sent it to people and I got good responses from doing so.

And here's another crazy one:  "The Terrible Pope".  It is grotesque and insane spoof on the Catholic Church.   Amazing art.  I just got it myself right now and had to post it.  I looked at the books and my jaw dropped & didn't close:

Ah yes, there's of course always a bias, even if it's small, and even if there's a conscious will to keep it away. I still have it when reading history even when trying to be as neutral as possible.

Yes, I guess it's harder to root for the tribal types when dealing with Ancient History, but it's not the case for me for example when the subject is the Spanish conquest of America. Even trying to be neutral I tend to sympathize with the local peoples.

Back with the Romans, it's maybe because of how advanced their culture was more than 2000 years ago that it produces a big impression to say the least. Be it their politic systems during the Republic and later on the Empire or their engineering achievements, it's hard not to feel some admiration for them. For me at least. So I guess the bias comes from that.

I couldn't read them... I downloaded the reader software but then it couldn't open the files   Are any of those in pdf by any chance? They look quite interesting and I really like the subject.

Well, actually that battle has a big historic relevance since it marked the end of any real pretension of Rome over Germany. The plan was basically expand the Roman territory and set the border on the Elba River. It was a complete failure after that big defeat in the Teutoburg Forest and Rome would never again try to claim the Germanic land. Instead they settled their border on the Rhine River. And those German tribes that were left unconquered and "uncivilized" were some centuries ahead one of the many factors to cause the fall of the Western Empire.

I've never been that much into reading about such specifics events of WWII. I started taking a look at the notes and it looks interesting, though at times I fall short on some specific terminology.

Well, again are any of those in pdf or another format (besides that reader is for Windows and I'm primarily a Mac user). The art looks indeed great, and I'm not particularly fond of the Catholic Church either, so it could be fun

So...! HERE IT IS!!

After a REALLY long process I finally have the copies of my second album.

This actually started back in 2006 when I wrote the song that gives the album it's title. The last song I wrote it in 2012, and the album was recorded between last year's January and this year's April.
