Oh, pleeeeease, can I apply for a job in that company?? Pleeease!! I make myself pretty helpful in doing all kinds of things, be it office work or recruiting or cooking for the lot of you or sorting out catfiights ...

No need to apply. You are hired! You can be the VP of Human Resources, and part-time office assistant and chef (Y)

And isn't that funny, I didn't know! They do nothing look alike! I had just recently read a Bio on Lily at wikipedia -what a family! With Lily's and Ruby's successful modelling, her mother being a well-known model, her father being an artist, and her brother being Miles Aldridge, one of the best contemporary photographers? Impressive!

I think they are only half-sisters. That would explain why they don't look very much alike

I agree, it is quite an impressive family. I wish they would adopt me!

Hi Pink, it's interesting to see that you are an advertising person. I responded to your post in the books thread:

It says 2006 on this, Pink. Just out of curiosity, what are your favorite marketing books today?

Influence and Bobos in Paradise (David Brooks) are low priority on my reading list so I haven't gotten to it yet.

Influence: Science and Practice by Robert B. Cialdini

Finding Betty Crocker By Susan Marks

Everything Bad Is Good For You By Steven Johnson

Truth, Lies & Advertising by Jon Steel

Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind by Al Ries and Jack Trout

The New Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind by Al Ries and Jack Trout

On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now (And Always Have) In the Future Tense by David Brooks

The only stuff I have been reading recently are medical-related articles for my job, and occasionally random fashion and entertainment blogs

I did start reading "Brandwashed" 2 months ago. Read about 50% of it but then stopped b/c I was busy with work. It is pretty good so I look forward to finishing it soon. Another book I have no clue why I didn't include on the list is "The Tipping Point".

Oh, I get it

I agree, she is a better print model than runway. But she seems to be a lot of fun to be with cute and with a good heart, who knows who is her half-sister?

I really hope VS keeps her around b/c I do like her

Her half-sister is Ruby Aldridge

I didn´t know too, lol have to check her too.

But I noticed that not many people here like her. Why is that?

I am not sure why she doesn't have many fans Perhaps people don't find her very attractive

Although I don't think she is Angel material, I do think she is a great model and VS should keep her as just a regular model (like ABB, Isabeli, Jarah, Maryna, etc.) She should consider switching agencies b/c her current agency isn't doing a very good job promoting her. They are not utilizing her strengths and her personality. She is an amazing print and commercial model, and she is quite eloquent (more so than some of the other Angels )

I do hope so - my portfolio is considerably heavier now than it was a year ago, though I still tend to think of myself as something of a plodder, as opposed to someone with a genuine flair for it.

For some reason, I started to see houses lit up with Christmas decorations as soon as November. And for someone like me, who doesn't even start their shopping until about the 22nd of December (at the earliest ), it's really rather odd. I mean, I don't know what it's like elsewhere but in this neck of the woods, you can't even buy yourself a tree until December starts.

That's great to hear. On the sliding scale of job qualities, I value a lack of drama pretty highly.

I see myself as a plodder at times too

In the US they start selling Christmas stuff as early as October. I expect seeing stuff around September next year b/c it is earlier and earlier each year. Marketing ploy

Is there anything to be said for forming an evil corporation instead? I've always secretly wanted to join one and valuing profits above ethics is something I could really see myself getting into.

BZ is already an evil "corporation" Unfortunately we are not the ones who are profiting from it.

^ Nice! Where were you traveling to? For work, pleasure, or a bit of both?

I am doing alright. Busy with work & etc. It is subjective b/c whether or not I am "back" depends on how one would define it

Agree... watching more videos with her makes me just in love with her, lol. And I also realized how gorgeous she looks on VS photos, even despite the bad photoshop... she really is a great print and commercial model.

Btw, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Pinky

I did start reading "Brandwashed" 2 months ago. Read about 50% of it but then stopped b/c I was busy with work. It is pretty good so I look forward to finishing it soon. Another book I have no clue why I didn't include on the list is "The Tipping Point".

I have a copy of Veblen's classic 'The Theory of the Leisure Class'. It's supposedly a must read

I read Gladwell's 'Outliers' many years ago. It was..ok- there's a better book called 'Talent is overrated' that covers the same subject.

You know, my favorite passages about consumer behavior & the social relations of conspicuous consumption are still from the JK. Galbraith's The Affluent Society. His views on what is necessary and what is unnecessary have resonated deeply within me over time Warmly recommended.

Another useful text is 'The Witch Doctors'- basically an introductory journalistic expose on the dynamics of business idea-peddling industry...composed of course of the thought leaders, the gurus, the management consulting industry, business schools, publications like Harvard Business review, and other components of this nexus.

High on my reading list (but too busy, as of late..) is Bhide's 'The Venturesome Economy'. I only browsed my copy but it's interesting- he peddles the concept of the quality of 'venturesome consumers' as being a primary demand-stimulus asset of the United States. (not fully shared in Europe or East Asia). IIRC he composed this text and its data out of research for the Kaufman Foundation. Bhide is a HBS professor who specializes in US innovation and entrepreneurship studies.

She really needs to change agencies or something b/c her natural talents & strengths are definitely not being utilized. BTW, I have decided I am officially a Lily fan!!!

Thank you I hope you had a fabulous x'mas and a wonderful new year!!!

I will add your book recommendations to my list! So much to do, so little time *ayi-yi-yi*

I have heard of "The Venturesome Economy". Many good reviews. BTW, have you read "Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man" by Marshall McLuhan. if you have, let me know what you think
