A Ronda cover when she's still undefeated and a Ronda cover following a high-profile beat down send two very different messages, one would think.

I think people sometimes overthink things. It's a famous athlete in body painting on the cover of a magazine. She attracted TMZ's attention so she sure would attract lots of attention. Plus has body painting ever been on the cover? If it has, it has been some years so that would stir things up.

I think there are many retail outlets - your Walmarts, etc... - that would not be happy having a cover that featured a nude - although painted - woman on the front of a magazine they're selling.  It's one thing for bodypaint to be an inset on a cover, but to be the main focus is something that hasn't happened before, and I think it would limit shelf space in many, many stores.

It doesn't actually. Unless of course the products are sex and controversy themselves, in which case *points at the entire internet* there's rather a lot of competition. Which is part of why the Swimsuit Issue itself is widely seen as somewhat passe.

It would cause "buzz" regardless. You said there is a lot of competition on the internet which is exactly why if something like this happens, it would cause a lot media outlets to post & overblow it b/c they are all hungry for "news" even if it is not news-worthy content.

She could be posing in a way that you don't any nipple, like she is on yhe picture on top of the page. That would cause controversy but could still be on the stands.

Yeah, which is what Last Week Tonight made fun of them for last year. Manufactured controversies to draw hits.

Do you really think they could put Ronda on the cover? Models would freak out! Ronda is no Beyonce!

Yeah. Imagine the number of hits an article like "GiGi Hadid* lashes out on Instagram over SI Swimsuit cover snub" would get.

That said I'm just following your premise. I don't know how "models" feel about Ronda Rousey or would her hypothetical cover.

It could have been nice to see Sara and Barbara promoting the issue together.

Do rookies ever get sent to morning shows etc. or is it always the veterans that go?

Its for rookies to promote. Erin did a lot of promo last year. She did Us Weekly, Fox News, Keith Olbermann, and Dan Patrick. Most of them by herself so I could see rookies getting promo work.

Dear SI Editors. I know MJ & Daric are afk, and you're stressed to get this magazine out on time, but I have one request to ask...

Please for the love of all things holy do not fuck up her pictures. Make sure she's not airbrushed to hell and back, and don't pick bad pictures... I don't care if MJ says she likes the picture... ignore her... Thanks

My thanks to you and @dubstep! Great to hear that because I hope to see Barbara as a guest on different shows. I think she’d be a good interview subject and the right kind of girl to represent the issue.

I disagree. Just because media outlets buzz about doesn't mean it will translate to sales.

How much buzz did Kendull and Gigi get for the VSFS? A whole lot, they were everywhere, did that translate into more viewers? No, and that was pretty much free and no money involved. With SI there's actually money (not much, but still money) involved. How much buzz did Kimye's Vogue Cover cause? Endless buzz, did that make people buy the magazine? Nope, in fact they sold half the expected amount, same happened in 2007 when Beyoncé covered the magazine and she's Beyoncé (aka God, my spiritual mother). Media outles are way way too overrated, just because people people click a link on PerezHilton when they have nothing else to do, it doesn't mean they'll buy whatever they're trying to sell

This applies to both Ronda and Gigi btw.

I don't disagree but I also wouldn't rule out the powers at be reveling in the hype, controversy, and attention, for its own sake.
