Ronaldo set to start on bench against Livorno

ROME (AFP) - Ronaldo, who is yet to make his debut for AC Milan, will start Sunday's home match against Livorno on the substitutes' bench as he is short of fitness.

"Ronaldo is well, he's worked hard and his condition has improved," AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Saturday. "He will be called up but will start on the bench, and if the right opportunity arises, he will play.

"He looks good to me, highly motivated and disciplined, but even he wants to be at his best before returning."

Milan are hoping to get the go-ahead to allow their 38,000 season-ticket holders into Sunday's match after originally being told it would have to be played behind closed doors.

The Italian government has introduced strict new security measures in the wake of the crowd violence at the Catania-Palermo match last week which claimed the life of a policeman and left 100 injured.
