Now that´s some hottie there ![]()
^ who do you mean? nice new set btw!

The girl with the glasses and gorgeous boobs. And thank you, that is my heroine ![]()

So, I watched your big game last night - and I have to say I really rather enjoyed it (minus Christina 'Why Sing One Note When You Can Sing Ten' Aguilera's anthem 'showboating' and all of halftime!)... But I began to get incensed quite early on with the commentator's insistence that this was to find the 'World' Champions? <_<
What's that about? This is the NFL - with that 'N' standing for National anyway, not World - with 32 US teams playing on US soil, using 99.9% US players (I know the odd 'foreign' player does appear - I don't know the exact percentage there), that have come up through the US college system... ![]()
Now I'm not oblivious to the fact that should the Packers now play against the best Argentino team (and we do have teams here - albeit amateur), or the best British team, or Japanese, South African, Russian, whatever - then they'd probably still win. But, then again, 'on any given Sunday' - you never know...
And, according to the commentary, the two best teams in the season weren't at the Superbowl anyway (the Falcons and Patriots). But come on - you should still have to prove that before you can go around shouting about it!
I just found that term 'World' galling - and I wondered what you thought, as you and mbinebri seem to be the NFL-botherers here at BZ?
^I've always wondered about that too, since they also call their baseball thingo the World Series :|

Not only did she "put her own spin on it" but she got the lyrics wrong :| Pretty big news today. She's done it right many times so i don't know what happened.
I'm not too aware of other countries football leagues but I'm pretty sure the NFL is the premier league so I would consider Green Bay world champs. like when an MLS team wins the championship I'm pretty sure they don't call them world champs.
We say the same with basketball. We're aware that other countries have really good teams, but come on, we all know the US has the best ballers :blueeyedbaby: I do know that Argentina has a pretty good squad though. ![]()
and yes, the 2 Matt's are the main NFL guy's 'round these parts
Both our teams lost in the playoffs ![]()
They're also saying this superbowl was the most watched TV event EVER. I think they said the same about last year's as well so maybe it's not that big a deal. ![]()

fixed ![]()
Though to be fair Baron, when a club wins the Champions League, it's the same deal for Europeans.

^I think you can say the same with basketball as you are the Olympic champions (but, let's not forget who won it in 2004!I'm not too aware of other countries football leagues but I'm pretty sure the NFL is the premier league so I would consider Green Bay world champs. like when an MLS team wins the championship I'm pretty sure they don't call them world champs. We say the same with basketball. The NFL might be the premier league - but where's the accountability? There's no promotion or relegation, no? I mean there's no way a great local team from here could be playing in the NFL next year is there? If Green Bay want to say they're World champions then they should play against the best in other countries (I know they'd most likely win - but it's the principal!
)
I take red_ed's point about the Champions League (although only ever informally, these were commentators saying 'World Champion' as FACT) - but a.) at least it has accountability. The national winning (often league + knock-out champions) teams from each European country all play against each other until only two are left in the final - and the winner can then claim they are the best of the best. You can end up with two teams from the same country in that final - but I suppose that goes to prove the strength of each individual league... In that sense it's more democratic. b.) These are the best players from around the world - not just Europe - and you have US players in teams too. I didn't see the same diversity on Sunday. Plus they only seem to recruit via the college system and therefore within their own borders. c.) We do have a FIFA Club World Cup (for the champions from six continents), and the Intercontinental Cup which is for the Champions League winner against the Copa Libertadores winner - so South America versus Europe. These might have been slightly devalued over time, but at least they make the teams prove they are 'World Champions'.
I don't know, the US is often accused of being insular - but isn't saying you're the World champs but not playing outside your own country (barring the annual game you play at Wembley Stadium in London - but that's just a showcase fixture) exactly that?!! I mean my team here, the MIGHTY (
) Banfield, won our league last year - but we wouldn't have the audacity to say therefore we're World Champions. This was a domestic league.

Who is the hottie...
And I never heard anyone over here refer to the CL league winner as a "World Champion"... ![]()

You're right, there is no accountability. World Champion sounds more dramatic than say, U.S. champions though. I think in the future we might have more international players. Obviously we're trying to bring the NFL to a wider audience by having games in Wembley and such. There's been talk of even having an overseas team. I don't see that happening though.
Does it really bother you? Them saying World Champion?

^I hope it does expand - I like the game, and it's clearly globally popular if it's the most watched show in the world. You're right, there is no accountability. That 'World Champion' tag does bother me though... This really isn't some anti-US diatribe, but maybe that term smacks a little too much of cultural imperialism? ![]()

Well MATT...i can finally see why you like miss Gomes, i was just watching some videos on SI.com and she is actually really gorgeous on video, i love her skin tone...but in photos? dislike. dunno why
