Best Sportsman of the Year

Raúl is the unanimous choice for the AS Awards

The brilliant season Raúl is having hasn't gone unnoticed and he was unanimously voted as Best Sportsman of the Year on 22 October.

Raúl González Blanco keeps breaking records. On 22 October he was voted best Sportsman of the Year by voters on As' website. The two most voted candidates were the Real Madrid captain and the entire Sevilla team.

The fans are wise and have chosen Raúl as the best because of his drive, strenght and great humanity, which make him a true role model both on and off the pitch.

"Raúl deserves everything," said Saviola when asked about this distinction, "He is a great player who still performs at the highest level at Real Madrid." The captain is still the most idolized sportsman in Spain, next to Fernando Alonso and Jorge Lorenzo in the F1 and motorcycling categories, respectively. The Spanish male and female national basketball teams have won the 'Más Deporte' award, for which the Spanish volleyball team was finalist. Barcelona's footballer Bojan Krkic won the Most Promising Player award, for which basketball player Ricky Rubio came in second.

The award ceremony will take place at 21:00 CET at Madrid Arena -gates will open at 19:00- and will be attended by former Madridistas Butragueño, Amancio, Gento, Corbalán, Emiliano, and legendary sportsmen Indurain, Ballesteros, Carlos Sainz, Fermín Cacho, Futre, Iríbar and Ángel Nieto.

AS...the Gala is tonight let's hope Raul will attend with Mamen!
