2nd option has smaller "react" section, images are square instead of round and user information/post information is smaller as well.

Agreed on the squarish, option over the rounded bubbly option. Looks a bit more mature, and less grade school writing notes in class. Don't judge me! That's how I relate it, and no I was not one of those girls with the bubbly rounded writing, but I had a friend who was and it drove me crazy.
As for the other options, I'm gonna say I like option 2 for both of them as well. It's a more unique look then a lot of the other forums I've seen, which would help us stand out a bit. Also looks like it might be a little easier to load for mobile.
Oh, and people are very visual, and the slightly larger thumbnails will "appeal" to people more. Kinda like food porn. It doesn't mean something tastes good, but the better the visual the more you want it.
^ Yup, I have been told by a lot of friends that dont visit the site, like all they see is a wall of text. Humans are visual thats why Instagram/pinterest/whatever are popular because we like pretty things and they catch our attention. Everything else is just extra.
