CD PROJEKT S.A. Solidifies Relationship with Witcher Books Author Andrzej Sapkowski

December 20, 2019

CD PROJEKT, creators of “The Witcher” series of games and upcoming role-playing game “Cyberpunk 2077”, together with Andrzej Sapkowski, author of “The Witcher” books, would like to inform that today both parties signed an agreement further solidifying their relationship.

“We’ve always admired Mr. Andrzej Sapkowski’s works — a great inspiration for the team here at CD PROJEKT RED,” says Adam Kiciński, President and Joint CEO, CD PROJEKT. “I believe today marks a new stage in our continued relationship,” Kiciński concludes.

The agreement satisfies and fully clarifies the needs and expectations of both parties, past and present, and sets out a framework for the future cooperation between the two sides.

The agreement grants CD PROJEKT new rights, as well as confirms the company’s title to “The Witcher” intellectual property in video games, graphic novels, board games, and merchandise.

https://www.ign.com/articles/the-witcher-andrzej-sapkowskis-new-book-focuses-on-a-teenage-geralt

"This time, the grandmaster of Polish fantasy is going back to Geralt’s teenage years, who is only taking his first steps in the witchcraft and has to face numerous challenges," reads the translated synopsis.

"Armed with two runic swords, he fights monsters, saves innocent virgins, and helps unhappy lovers. Always and everywhere he tries to obey the unwritten code he got from his teachers and mentors. As usual, life spares no disappointments — youthful idealism clashes with reality from time to time. The saga continues. The story never ends."

the new indiana jones game seems more like the indy4 everyone wanted than films themselves, although it is super derivative of the first 3 films.

The first part is a literal copy of raiders of the lost ark.  The game has minimal gameplay and tons of cutscenes, seems more like an interactive movie than a game.

Tony todd appears as a main character before his death.

This CGI trailer Ciri is noticeably less good looking/mean looking compared to Ciri in the Witcher 3... : (.

Don't like her voice actor, too deep and authoritative.

I expect Ciri to look different in-game.

This reminds me of how Geralt was portrayed in the W3 early promos- more aggressive and mean looking than he is.

So according to the CDPR devs Ciri after the end of W3 undertakes Witcher mutations which is why her eyes has changed.

The devs also say that part of the game is to 'create your own' Ciri, as in what you do in the game will determine what kind of person she will be.

Which is cool, and sounds different than in W3 where Geralt does get 'mean Geralt' endings but it's mainly due to doing the wrong stuff during your playthrough and making the wrong choices; the personality of Geralt doesn't change.

Don't get the confusion over Ciri as the Witcher in The Witcher IV when one of the Witcher 3 endings (and my favorite ending) is her becoming a Witcher.

This actually makes me more and not less interested.

yea, Ciri is literally the #1 most logical choice based on the books and the games.  It would be like going back to the lion's den for her to be empress.

Also the devs said that the ending where Ciri dies (and also internet sleuths) isn't real.  She actually survives and there are clues about it in the game.

It seems that people are upset that Geralt is not the main character and the CGI Ciri looks different/not as pretty as the W3 Ciri.

The CDPR Corvo Bianco comic that finished up last month makes more sense now; in the ending Geralt realizes that he can't fully escape from the 'path', the 'path' finds him again eventually.  Doug Cockle/Geralt will be in the W4 but how much so is the question; he could be a major supporting character (most likely) or a lesser one like  Letho was in W3.

Can't figure out if these guys are serious or just trolling. Surely no one really wants a yassified Ciri?

I think she looks right for a Ciri who is X years older than in W3 and who has been working as a Witcher ever since.

The W4 Ciri to me is still very attractive but she kind of looks odd in some of the rendering.  When she's in the sunlight she looks fine, but in the dark she looks like she's in her 40s, wearing a lot of makeup but oddly without wrinkles.  There is a little facial sag that comes with middle age.  I dunno, it's a bit odd.

Ciri is supposed to have some elf blood so the creative choice to make her look 'special' in the W3 with features that are too perfect.  Featured-Image.jpg

some speculation online that Ciri in Witcher 4 is modeled after Daria Zawiałow, who is also doing music for the game.

I think people's heads will explode if CDPR releases another Witcher 4 trailer and Ciri is Empress, with a whole different narrative.  As in the player could chose between the two.
