At this point, I genuinely believe Victoria’s Secret needs a full-scale exorcism. Not a refresh. Not a rebrand. A purge.

New models, faces we’ve never seen before or are so underrated that the majority of people don't really know them.

New Angels who are young, hip, sexy and not recycled. Goodbye Grace, goodbye Taylor (your... fucking... hair). No shade, but the magic’s gone.

New photographers with a vision, not just filters.

New designers who understand silhouette and story.

New PR that doesn’t sound like it’s trapped in 2016.

Out with the old, the tired, the same walks and the kissy faces/hearts. In with something that feels alive.. unpredictable, and exciting. And as a nod to the Spooky Season 🖤 ... If VS wants to matter again, it needs to stop clinging to ghosts and start conjuring legends.

I think it makes a lot of sense for VS to rely on / heavily promote their older, more well-known models for the VSFS. They ran out Heidi for years and it made sense, because for most casual viewers, she was known, but most of the public had have no clue who Doutzen Kroes was.

I think the bigger problem is a lack of promotion from the "lower ranks." They "discovered" Candice in 2007 as a fitting model or something like that and in 2 or 3 years, she's an angel at 21 y.o. There are no angels any more, but who's the youngest model in this show we'd considered qualified to be an angel? Barbara (32)? Bella (29)? Grace (28)?

Heidi was 36 in her last show in 2009. This year Adriana and Alessandra are 44, Doutzen's 40, Lily's 39, Candice is 36. Where there used to be one or two veterans, now there're like 5-6.

The "middle class" of their roster is hollowed out. VS is like a sports team that hasn't drafted or developed well in years now, so they're relying on old veterans and taking random shots on rookies (influencers). And they haven't been very good at drafting those influencers either: I agree that many influencer-models are terrible at modeling, even in stills never mind runway, and a ton of them have OF / thirst-trap content that VS might not want to associate with, but it's not like there aren't really good younger models out there. They just don't seem interested in scouting them out any more, instead relying on trends / popularity / vibes rather than looking for talent. Who's trending on Instagram? Can she walk? Who cares!

Edit: It's not that Candice et al. should or shouldn't be walking because we're tired of them or not. It's more, without Candice et al., who would we even be excited for?

Those are two different woman, and it's not just because of the hair and obvious weight loss. There is something missing from when she first entered the scene, and I'm saying this as one of her first fans on BZ. I praised her to all heaven and back when I first saw her in Guess and pleaded with the gods to allow her to model for VS.

I believe she cut her hair short to support her mom (I could be wrong), who was battling cancer at the time. When your family goes through something like that, it’s normal to gain/lose a few pounds. She’s been quiet on social media this past year, which is totally understandable (focusing on her family and marriage?).

With that said, seeing her on the runway last night, I saw that same glow from previous years and I hope the industry did too. I genuinely believe things are looking up for her and hopefully, this marks a new beginning. Fingers crossed for her (and Taylor) to return next year.

I didn't expect them not to count on her, quite surprised by this.

Kinda strange and sus that they wouldn't have her walk the show considering she is in the VSFS merchandise campaign.

I think that was Amelia Gray if you're talking about the beauty in the small red dress with matching g-string . The show feed I saw on YouTube did her dirty. The camera man spent her walk during the red segment focusing on the chunky singer. Absolutely NOBODY tuned in to see her.

Over all, a rather disappointing show.

Candice was the overall winner

Alessandra's best look was the opening walk

They did Adriana dirty by not giving her any sexy outfits.

Irina and Lily were able to just barely save the entire Red segment

Emily Ratajkowski single-handedly saved the entire Pink segment from being a complete waste

Yasmin Wijnaldum was someone I'd never heard of before, but she was absolutely stunning

I think you're spot on with the "middle class" roster being hollowed out, part of the reason for that IMO is that they didn't have the Angels concept from 2019 until the show came back last year and by then too many years had passed without anyone being a recognisable face doing consistent work and press for VS. If they had been smart, they would have put Barbara, Gigi and/or Bella under contract for example and attach them to other new faces like Imaan they could groom and grow into the brand like they've done with Candice, Josephine, Jasmine, etc. but they missed the mark by going too broad and not have anyone be an exclusive for the brand. Part of why Adriana, Alessandra, Candice and the others were so successful with VS is because they were exclusive to the brand for years, people think of Adriana and they think of VS and vicecersa and that benefitted VS (and the girls) tremendously. If I were a VS exec now, I'd sign Anok Yai and Alex Consani asap, they're the It girls right now and whenever they do something together it goes viral, they have a healthy mix of the high fashion credentials and are known to a lot of the average person.

Also, hard agree on Taylor needing extensions asap. Sorry diva, but you simply cannot pull off short hair... Still shocked VS passed on her though, I don't get why they think she's good enough for their campaigns but not good enough for their show.

Anok, Alex, Barbara, Imaan and Gigi would be the best choice to bring the angels’ concept back. And Taylor Hill with long hair.

She didn't walk the show last year either. I believe that was also when her contract with VS ended. BTW, I posted photos in her thread yesterday.

VS also out of the blue removed all photos featuring her from all their sites towards the beginning of the year. They usually do that when model is no longer under contract.

I don't know was it an "Angel" contract or what the contract entailed. All I know is she was one of the main faces of VS China (and maybe in other Asian countries as well), and was in all their major campaigns. She even had a special section on VS China's site. Then sometime earlier this year her page was removed along with all her photos.
