Models used to be scouted. The scouts would walk around all day looking for the beauty in the crowds all over the world. I remember a show or an online video of what it takes to be a model scout and them trying to bring in new physical characteristics of models to the runway, models with "red" hair.
Anyway, they don't do any of that anymore. They would rather rely on famous offspring and the internet. The internet does not capture raw talent the same way as it does in person because you can't see the "magnetism" of the person in comparison to everyone else around them.
I also blame Ivan Bart (RIP) and Jeni Rose from IMG. They started this madness.
The reason why entertainers in general were so magnetic is that they were discovered, and most of them have a desire and passion to be there. They have better work ethics than the social media crowd and nepo models. They don't have a golden parachute like the other category of people listed above, so their "hunger" is different.
Models are meant to be plucked from the wild.
I hope the fashion world/model agencies realize this and bring it back, but the fashion industry has been anti-supermodel for decades...
Yes to all this. Spot on, I just went through the list of girls who walked and unsurprisingly some of the ones I disliked the most are nepobabies and influencers. Nepotism should have ended with the Hadids and Kaia Gerber, they're all actually good at their jobs and would have probably made it without their families (probably not as far and not as quickly, but still)... Everyone who came after them in the fashion industry has been an embarrassment to watch, I'm glad Hayley Baldwin realised quickly she wasn't cut for fashion and left it alone, I hope more follow suit.

It seems VS is currently throwing stuff onto the wall and seeing what sticks. They are trying to be everything to everyone (i.e., being both high fashion and commercial, being inclusive but also exclusive, wanting to move forward from the controversies but also holding on to certain elements that were part of to controversies, wanting to be progressive but staying stagnant and unevolved....the list goes on). They are sending mix and contradictory messages, and it is confusing for consumers to decipher who's their target. They need to pick a lane and stick with it.
As for using influencers and non professional models, as much as I am not fond of them walking the show and etc. , I am also aware it is the current trend and the direction society is heading in the cultural/media landscape. Changes and progress are inevitable whether we like it or not. Keep in mind it was the lack of acceptance and refusal to acknowledge trends that was part of their downfall a few years ago. Once they realized their mistakes, it was a bit too little too late, and it came off as disingenuous and performative.

I don't agree with your point at all on influencers. Influencers are actually the most try/hard or hard working people out there. It is not easy to manage, maintain, and grow a fanbase of over a million people or millions. They also have the power to control their fanbases' perception and what they buy. I think this is why brands use influencers for a long time now.
The main difference between them and supermodels is really genetics... They usually don't have the extreme genetics/personal aura and the supermodels/top models do. That's why they suck on the runaway and don't look as good in advertisements.
BTW Look at Sanne Vloet (she walked VS AND is a successful social media influencer- it takes a lot of work). It seems as her modeling career didn't do so well she went into social media for her main effort.

............And none of that "millions of followers" translates on the runway, and when they are in the presence of real models, the difference truly shows. I hated seeing the influencers and certain models between real fashion models. It destroys my personal replay value. The first segment ate for that reason.
Anyway, Aura is just the magic of the person. There are a lot of tall models with no aura but who look the part. Romee is one of them. Beautiful girl, beautiful gowns, and always gave nothing but two poses, and that's it. Kendall Jenner is another tall, beautiful girl with the aura of a crippled ant.
I'll use Alexis Ren as an example of an influencer trying to model who used an agency to build her millions of followers back in the day. It was a whole scandal back then of how these people used agencies to build followers using bots to create fake hype to get real people to follow them. Many companies are now dropping influencers because their followers are fake, and the engagement is not adding up. The moment VS thought "millions" of followers meant millions of views for the show was the beginning of their downfall. Kendall's KUWTK audience and social media followers did not translate to more views.
Besides, most of those followers are fake and do not translate to sales or viewership.
Sanne Vloet is not a good example. She was a working model first before social media; she's 5'11, and fits the model stats. These social media influencers are not that. She pivoted more to social media with food and workout routines when things slowed down, but her fanbase never translated to Candace or Adriana Lima. Otherwise, she would still be walking the show.

Candace's entire journey to becoming a VS angel was nothing but hard work, and the moment she went from being a fit model to her first Pink segment, she captured everyone with her booty, gained more fans through her natural grace. She always had a work ethic and hunger. Her passion for modeling shows every time, and it glows from within her.
You will never get that from an influencer/nepo model because they are entitled, whiny, and delusional af.
The good news is VS is taking in feedback and applying it to the show, and hopefully, the feedback of no influencers, bringing back real models, and scouting will happen next year. We want to see who can be the new faces of VS, and creating a voting system/Reality TV segment effect will bring back the excitement for VS/Commercial modeling in general.
We used to get a bunch of content leading up to the show, the VS plane, plus more. They can bring something like that back, too.

Just no.
Bless all these girls. They are beautiful in their own way, but this is not JCPenney's.
Influencers should get their own moment off the runway.

Like....this is what I mean when I say you can see the difference. It's like two different shows compared to the aboce.
The first segment was old school VS. I miss it so much.

I missed Gisele 🥺

Taylor posted this pic on IG and responded to several comments from fans telling her that they missed her a lot on the show yesterday. And she basically makes it pretty clear, without saying so explicitly, that she was rejected by VS.
To the comment: “Why wasn't my favorite angel among them all?”
She replied: “I don't know, but maybe next year!”
To the comment: "Damn, I wish you were there yesterday 🥺 I truly missed you"
She replied: "me too hopefully next year 💖🤞"
I didn't expect them not to count on her, quite surprised by this.
