Creepy.

A little bit hasty, but amazing overall. This is the perfect pre-Halloween blockbuster💯 @Jade Bahr
I had a great time, there was a lot of goofiness and fun, but at the same time serious themes of grief and acceptance of loss were touched upon. Despite the name of the asshole ghost in the title, the main characters of this film are women of the Deetz family. Watching Winona, Jenna and Catherine interact was a real pleasure, they were so natural and genuine. And yeah, Tim Burton is still got it.

It was written a long time ago and It laid out the beginning template for modern western fantasy so the books themselves were are not thrilling for me outside of the remarkable and ancient language. I like Fellowship and was often bored with the next two books, the Hobbit and the Silmarillion.
I think Tolkein's great strength was worldbuilding and lorebuilding- populating the world with details in a elegant and intricate way. He was a weaker character writer and not quite up to modern standards.
I saw the first 2 films in the theater and couldn't get into them as a teen. This was when the LOTR craze was happening and everybody went to see Return of the King. It was an event like the Starwars Prequels.
I missed out on that as I didn't like the first 2 films. Then I read the books a few years ago and re-watched them & it was a completely different experience.
The extended editions are more complete and in particular improves Fellowship of the Ring. I think Fellowship is a close adaptation and pretty much a masterpiece.
But I still found Twin Towers & Return of the King to be too bloated with CGI action scenes. The worst part is how they omitted the Scouring of the Shire which is thematically important to the story and ultimate meaning.
The actual books have few descriptions of violence or battles at all.

It's quite the opposite for me. As a kid I loved all 3 movies (watched all of them in cinema etc) but now re watching those dead ass boring bad CGI filled extended cuts I wondered what the hell I liked about it as a kid 😄 Tried to read the books back then and failed. At least now thanks to TRoP I know why everyone is terrified of this eye.

@Lilja K Finally watched
LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍
Cami and her acting style + voice reminds SO MUCH of young Claire Danes it freaked me out (in the best possible way)
🤯
Joe Keery was hilarious (well until he wasn't lol).
Aldis Hodge is freakin hot
bonus 🍑

I think a weakness with the original trilogy (and the books too) is that Sauron is not established strongly enough as an opposing force.
I agree the CGI is dated and often fake looking, especially in the Return of the King. There are great parts though but there is too much going on and they give videogame cutscenes vibes.
Overall what happened (IIRC) was that Peter Jackson established a production company to make the CGI and he had to keep them in business so he gave them plenty to do in the 2nd and 3rd films.
I guess also kids who don't understand the story, world, philosophies, and characters too much could then have a smashing time with the CGI.

Okay-ish. Main problem is none of the characters are really likeable so the outcome didn't really mattered since I wasn't rooting for any of them (Joseph is a drunk, Richard is a dick, I kinda liked Shailene but her character was underwritten). The solution was predictable anyway or mabye it was intentional because actually it was spoilered right in the beginning if you paid attention. However Richard Madden is insanely hot and most of the time somehow half naked (more in his thread) lol

Can't express how much I love this movie!!! So underrated.

Not even close, personally I really enjoyed the movie. The musical parts which trigger most people are like 20-30% of the movie. Most people who are s**** on the movie haven't even seen it. I'd suggest you go watch it and see for yourself instead of caring what others think. I'd rate it 3.5/5.
