I haven't seen that show but i really wanna..

Hm, yeah..I guess i do sound a bit serious, you may even say i have quite a serious monotone voice...

I mumble like crazy too! Most of the time people dont even know what I'm saying.

It's on Youtube. Don't feel obliged to watch, only if you fancy :

I'm sure that you're not monotonous, Colin Farrell wasn't; he just sounded a bit intense. In a survery Irish accents were the most popular among us Brits.

The people not understanding you is probably due to all the Guinness (I recently read that it was actually invented in England! That goes down like a lead balloon on St Patrick's Day. ) and Bailey's rather than your pronunciation.

Merrily; I'll post a clip of my voice, but what does one say? Apart from "mascara", "bag" and the usual.

Clearly your friend has good taste. My question was rather vague; I thought that I would just test the water. I'm from South-East England so am closer to the Queen's English than most. Americans say that I sound like Hugh Grant, but I really don't. I am rather foppish and bumbling like him though.

They weren't stupid, they just couldn't understand me; apparently I emphasised the "t" in water too much.

It's good being an individual rather than just another person in the crowd; good on you. You're pretty headstrong for your age. It sounds like you have a fun family, that's pretty cool.

Oh, I now have tomorrow off, by the way.

Exactly! I don't know what I would say!

Well, that sounds like it would be a pretty attractive accent, for sure.

If my definitions of "foppish and bumbling" are correct

Hahaha, I see. Well, you'll have to say water if you decide to record your voice

Thanks, I wish that more people thought that like that. Everyone is so boring <_< And I actually agree with you, I'm ridiculously, delusionally headstrong. I can't help it though I hope I don't come off as arrogant or anything, though Because I'm not... And sometimes I think that I seem so... Because I take charge of every situation & I always think I'm right. Fuck, I'm just like my mother

You're the creative one; if you don't know what to say then I've got no clue. Cripes, I do hope that I haven't overhyped my accent. :| Meh, if it's not up to scratch then I'll just blame it on my room's acoustics.

There's a difference though between being arrogant and headstrong. You don't come across as arrogant or domineering at all, and it's good being headstrong, I with that I were more so . With your sketches and other assorted talents you actually seem pretty modest, to be honest.

Turning into your parents.

I'll probably just ramble on and say stupid crap I don't think that you've overhyped your accent... But I'll lower my expectations, if you like Hahaha, blame it on the acoustics

Okay, well that's good then. Because I don't want to seem arrogant because I'm not at all. Trust me, I'm the first person to say that I could be better at a lot of this :|

My worst fear. But I'm SO much like my mom. That's why we don't get along at all.

Rambling's good. I'm prone to huge monologues.

That sucks that you don't get along with your mum. Why are you so scared?

Hahaha, that's funny. I tend to talk for ages and say nothing,

if you know what I mean. I'm the worst at telling stories

Because my parents aren't the best people...

And I notice their worst qualities in myself.

I just don't want to be anything like them.

Vacuousity's not too bad. Telling stories is really hard though - it's so easy to go off on tangents.

It is difficult if you see other people's, particularly your parents, qualities in yourself. At the same time though I suppose that it is useful in the sense you have insight and can learn from them by spotting the good and bad qualities and working on them. I'm sure that it's not much of a consolation or much use but I had a spell where I thought that I was turning into my dad, which initially kind of freaked me out, but I looked at it and thought of the good things about him and the bad things. Since then I have really tried to make an effort with the bad things (being unilateral, not listening, lazing about, drink ), so that I can make sure that I don't manifest them, and have tried to improve his good aspects (jolliness, etc . . . that doesn't look good ). Spotting those kind of things is a big step, although is also rather scary; you've just got to work on them I suppose to try and push to be the person you want to be. For what it's worth - not that I particularly know you - you seem to be doing pretty well.

Oh dear, that's pretty long and I really do sound like a bit of a 'knob'. :|

So true! I always get distracted and begin to tell stories within stories That's the worst, because then you never end up finishing any of them

I don't mind if it was long It makes a lot of sense and is really helpful advice. That actually got me thinking now... Except I can't seem to think of any good qualities that I share with my mother Maybe some will come to me, though
