we've been told that it's best to eat a balanced diet and do the whole calorie thing . . . atkins and high protein diets start giving you problems.

The best diet is what makes you feel good. Most people eat too much carbs and too little protein. Atkin's diet means too much protein and too little carbs. Personally I find it difficult to cut carbs because carbs are everywhere!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

i say "just eat what you want and if you are trying to lose weight then eat a bit less or do the whole calorie points thing"

there's no point in making a concious effort to eat protein as opposed to carbohydrates.

ok, the definitive from my 'Oxford Handbook of General Practice' in reference to diet:

"General foods to avoid or decrease:

Fatty meat products (sausages, salamis, meat pies, etc), more than 140 g/day of processed and red meat (beef, lamb, pork), high fat dairy products, full-fat spreads, crisps, cakes, biscuits, slated peanuts, canned food high in sugar and salt.

The Ideal Diet

Eat a VARIETY of foods and the right amount to maintain a healthy weight

Use starchy foods as the MAIN ENERGY source and plenty of fruit and vegetables - don't overcook, steaming is preferable to boiling and keep the delay between cutting fruit and veg and eating them to a minimum.

Eat plenty of fibre - good sources are breakfast cereal, pulses, beans, wholemeal bread, potatoes(with skins), pasta, rice, oats.

Eat oily fish at least once or twice a week and cut down on cooked red or processed meat - consider substituting meat with vegetable protein (e.g. pulses or soya, etc)

Choose lean meet

Use skimmed milk

Avoid adding sugar or salts to food and cut down on sweets, biscuits and sticky desserts [NEVER!! ]

Drink at least 4-6 pints of fluid (pref. not tea, coffee or alcohol) each day and avoid excessive alcohol intake"

would apply to diets or normal stuff . . . the medical profession do not like Atkins' diet. it prob screws you up so be skeptical of it. i decided to piss of the professor at uni by using Atkins propaganda to argue with every point that he made and i successfully shot down half of his arguments 'cos i was a proper pain in the ass.

what a sad bastard i am . . .

is anyone advocating the Atkins diet (high protein, low carb)?? don't do it unless you want kidney damage, bad breath (due to excretion of acetone) or want to increase your chances of colon cancer, due to high red meat intake. atkins attempts to simulate the hypoglycaemic, ketoacidotic state of untreated diabetics which doesn't sound very good for you and prob isn't very good for you. your body thinks that it's starving so it digests proteins and uses ketone bodies for energy . . .

atkins is good in theory but buggers up your kidneys in the long run and you can't keep down your weight unless you adhere to an atkins-esque plan afterwards which sucks . . . or so i've been told by professors and people . . .

i like dr atkins but i hate his diet and his dietary empire. . .

No. I am just a chubby bastard.

I did not do any exercise while on that diet,

I went on the Atkins for 3 months and lost 7kg.

After that, my cheeks concave inwards.

I didn't even do a proper Atkins.

If you really follow it, the maximum amount of carbohydrates you can eat a day is only 2 slices of bread. I eat like 4-5 slices of bread a day. The rest is all meat.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The only diet I follow is the balanced diet..2 slices of bread?!?! That would kill me....I eat alot but I don't put on anything..thank u God!! I'm kinda a health freak as well I only care about how healthy my body is....but i still eat alot.
