We are getting hit hard with Bot Spam. I 'm doing everything in my power to keep this from getting out of control. One of our members suggested this as a means of helping the issue. I flagged and banned 20+ ppl and I'm on 40+ pages of removing spam, and it's still going.

Please limit the forum to latin letter only use (if possible), since the recent spam waves seem to be from Chinese and Korean origin...

I've banned several spam accounts myself today and deleted all of their posts.

I might put new registrations back under admin review as a stopgap, unless Maddog objects? It's pretty hard to keep up with the frequency of the spam attacks otherwise.

We are swamped with spam accounts so I have reactivated admin approval for registration for now.

50 pages of spam I removed. Why are they hitting us so hard And it's a good idea to keep admin approval on imo.

I restarted the search engine and it appears to be working now. Thanks.

Looks like they are using accounts which were created prior to the admin review change.

Should fizzle out once they run out of accounts.

Still, this is the third time that I can remember we have been hit with one of these.

Not sure what the best tactic might be to deal with them, leaving registration on admin review indefinitely seems a bit excessive but it is also the only tactic that seems to work whenever we are hit with a spam attack.

Ill look into a few options, I checked all their IPs and they are not even trying to hide they are from Korea. Not sure how I could prevent anyone from logging in or posting if they are from a certain country but I can probably figure something out.

For now it seems to be slowing down so thats good

I implemented a new spam system using cleartalk, supposedly it will check for spam the first 10 user posts and ban them if necessary. After that they are not monitored. I have reset the settings to email verification and I guess we shall see what happens.

I've been offline most of the day and this week I'll pulling insane work hours, sorry for not helpin as much yall

Considering the amounts of spam we're dealing with and all the regular work as it is, are we ready to get toodarnhot and medicenevs on board as mods? I think everyone agreed on them being solid fits.

Normally I'm good with the idea, however lately neither of them seem to be around very often (that I've seen), and unless they're around more there's kinda no point.

Is there any way to implement it that the moderators can approve new members if we left it on admin approval? That way new accounts don’t just fall to the admins.

A query for @maddog107 if I may be so bold. A member just reported a problem while trying to log in, he's seeing a message saying something to the effect of "your current address is no longer accepting email, please enter a new email address to continue”

Only he says that when he tries entering said new address, it lets him in for a short while but then it takes him back to the same page with the same message.

Thanks MD, he managed to figure it out by himself in the end, turns out that he'd blocked BZ from his gmail due to recieving more email updates than he could cope with. Unblocking seemed to solve the issue.
