So how was the weekend? And this up-coming one? ![]()
I watched football yesterday, Spain VZ Portugal, and I know Germany is up to play against Italy, so I´m having my fingers crossed for ya ![]()
Oh man, and I wrote a PM, can't believe I'm such a jerk and didn't read my own thread, sorry, Jennka ![]()
So glad you got it ![]()
So, actually I wanted to spend yesterday's evening here, but a friend of mine send me a link to a documentary I had to watch ... it was the most shocking, upsetting thing I ever saw ... did you hear about "Earthlings"?
I'm not sure if I should recommend it to you, but in a way I feel oblieged to talk about it. It's about the suffering of animals for food, fashion, pets, entertainment and medical research. They filmed a lot of the material with hidden cameras in slaughterhouses and labs and breeding farms and stuff, I cried the whole movie. I can't believe how cruel people are. It's very long, about an hour and a half, every few minutes I was gazing at the time code to see how much longer I had to watch, often thought about stopping it, but one of their "motto" is: "We must not refuse with our eyes what they must endure with their bodies"- so I stayed tune until the end. Afterwards I couldn't bring myself to spend time with talk, and I'm still shaken by the memories.
So I'm posting a link to it here, but it is really, really dreadful, so read the review first before you decide to watch it ...

Why am I posting this ... I don't know, I feel like the more people know about it, the better we are informed, maybe one day we will be able to stop the cruelty. It's not that I decided to become a vegetarian or vegan after watching it, though I thought about it. But I will not buy meat anymore when I don't know where it came from, that means no hamburgers and no meat at restaurants anmore etc. I won't eat pork anymore. Same goes with sea fish. I'm not gonna buy milk/cheese/creme etc from a brand that doesn't exactly state how they treat their cows. And I won't buy any bakery stuff, if I don't know where they got their eggs from. I'm not gonna buy leather goods anymore.
I simply won't.
And I will only buy cosmetics from companies that are on a white list, having absolutely nothing to do with animal research whatsoever.
I told my mother about it and she said it won't change anything if I stop all those things, but if I decide to change my way of life due to that movie, maybe others will change their ways too, and in the end we are perhaps enough to make a general change of things.

I think that if someone wants to change the world, he should start from his very own self - that means you have just the right approach Mel
never lose hope, even small good things are worth a try.
I can´t watch the document - I already know what I´m going to see and can´t go through that anymore. Last time I saw such thing I could not sleep for a week and everything inside of me just hurt damn lot. I will never understand cruelty to animals.
Nothing has changed me to a vegetarian, but I do care about what I buy. No cosmetics, no leather, no fur (hell seeing someone in fur makes me freeze, especially now since the technology of creating clothes has gone so far and we no more need fur to feel warm), I have one shampoo and that´s all.
If I have a chance to help, I do it, if I can save an animal, I do it.
We really should care more - if only people would learn it.
