I suggest you get a move on in your comp for the sake of civility!

Luckily, I've developed a fool proof plan with regard to restoring order in the comp, which I'd be more than happy to walk you through now. You see...

Haha, why did the competition become such a large mental hurdle to cross? Are the results more difficult to calculate this time around?

Hopefully, you can find the fun and excitement in that competition again and thus motivation to finish posting the list

I guess one could say that the comp has become a bit of an albatross, but only really because of a lack of time. I was very under the weather during the period that I'd set aside to wrap up the final list and since then, I've been trying to catch up on some of the work that I previously had to put off. So, most of my visits here have had to be flying ones lately. Fear not though, finishing it is still very much on my 'to do' list.

Out of interest, would you have any preference on how I should deliver the final list?

Thanks for replying

I’d like to see the full list posted at once or at least in relatively quick succession (within hours of each other). So one doesn’t have to wait till next day to get another batch, then wait another day to get a new batch etc.

Or you could e.g. post 90 models on one day and wait till the next day for the final 10 but then people might guess pretty easily who made it to the top 10.

I like that you’ve included a picture of each model!

I found this recently- I thought it was an interesting critique on Metal Gear Solid 4 and he did a lot of research (the guy is a gaming journalist).

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a new Fantastic Four movie were higher on Feige's to-do list than X-Men.

Recently, I was thinking about the lack of success with Fantastic Four movies. I wonder if it wouldn't be a better idea to create a show instead of a movie in order to completely separate the MCU Four from the previous versions. I doubt that's very likely for many reasons but mainly because I'm sure they believe they can make more money with a movie.

I should have thought to bring this conversation here earlier.

Agreed. You know, I do tend to think of Fantastic Four as being almost akin to a soap opera, with homely characters that you can recognise and root for, and certainly an underdog story like that could be made to work as a series. I suppose the more likely scenario is that we get them as part of a post-Thanos arc where Doctor Doom is the villain, which would be relatively easy to get right too. Either way, I would expect to see them in the MCU by the end of Phase 4.

It's funny really, because as hard as Fox tried to keep a grip on the property, they clearly had a problem finding a story that connected with people, and I can't help thinking that a big part of that was the serious setting of the Josh Trank effort. The characters are just so inherently goofy as a group that it's important for the audience to laugh with the movie, as opposed to laughing at it. You can't go to town on showcasing their cool powers, because with the exception of the Human Torch, they don't really have any.

I'll be surprised if we see any mention of the X-Men in the MCU before the latter half of the 2020s, it seems like Feige has his Phase 4 mostly mapped out already with quite a full slate of characters. It's certainly cool to think though that all this puts Galactus, Silver Surfer, Kang, the Starjammers and the Shi'ar back on Marvel's list of options.

I have seen a couple of lists with what is expected to come out over the next two years, but I have no way of knowing if those are reliable. Also, Guardians 3 being pushed back was certain to have caused some adjustments to the plan. You're right about Feige and his people having a plan in place, and it would have been fun to be in the meetings when the Fox purchase became a reality to see how the plans changed and how everyone reacted to the new possibilities. I say that because Feige was a fan long before he ran the studio, so the fanboy side of him, and others, had to come out.

You would think the other movie studios would have learned from Marvel's success that funny works, and everything doesn't have to be dark.

I think if there is going to be a downside to the merger, it's that Noah Hawley's proposed Doctor Doom project would appear to be in limbo at the moment. Ordinarily, I'd rather see an MCU developed movie done correctly than gamble on a Fox property spinoff version, but the synopsis of this one suggested something very different and a long way outside the norms of what we'd usually expect from a comic book adaptation. Hopefully, it's not shelved altogether.

I hadn't heard of that one, but a quick look at the synopsis makes it sound, kind of insane, honestly.

Sounds like it'll be a fun ride though, I'll definitely give it a watch.

I like the glimpses we've seen so far. I suppose what the trailer implies could still prove to be more interesting than what the game ultimately delivers, but I'll happily go on any ride that Kojima wants to take me on.

It'd be nice though if this story were to just begin and end in one go instead of establishing tons of narrative threads that go on for years across multiple sequels.

It's super weird and I have no idea what's going on- par for the course.

I felt that the magisterial saga of MGS ended in a less than perfect manner, like Game of Thrones.  Still, I hold it as one of the great stories in gaming.  I should re-visit it sometime.

Cyberpunk 2077 is looking to be extremely promising.

For sure, Phantom Pain felt like a book with the end chapter torn out. I suppose there's only one true fan request now and that would be for Metal Gear 1 and 2 to be remade or rebooted into a next-gen game. That would be the ultimate full circle moment for the franchise, but as it stands, it looks as if the 'mythology' is going to be left unfinished. Still, with Kojima known for being such a contrary sort, there might even be a part of him that prefers it that way.

What do you make of the apparent trend nowadays of using real actors' likenesses in video games, ala Death Stranding and Cyberpunk? It barely seems like five minutes since developers were complaining that they couldn't survive without microtransactions, suddenly they're spending what must be astronomical amounts on motion capping a-listers.

I heard that Kojima was tired of making MG games for a long time- could be a rumor though.

I think it's mainly marketing and they should make up the cost with added sales.  There was a call of duty game that used Kevin Spacey as a villain.  Littlefinger was used for a game too.  However  I never saw an A-list actor being used effectively in a game.  GRRMartin has been listed as the co-creater of "Eden Ring".  Not sure how much work he actually did and if he's mainly being paid for marketing.   What do you think?

My impression was always that Kojima would use ongoing consumer demand for a famed franchise to his advantage by funnelling whatever ideas and seemingly unconnected whims he had into a framework that he eventually grew somewhat tired of, which I suppose might explain him always apparently wanting to end it, but still making more. Each individual title felt motivated by a new aesthetic, concept or gameplay vision of what an MGS game could look like, and stuff like that probably interested him more than thinking of ways to resolve the plots.

The casting of real actors makes a certain kind of business sense, of course. I do worry that it might detract from the experience, then again I know plenty of folks for whom the announcement of Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk will be an added hook, so it might get the game noticed by those who wouldn't have heard of or considered it otherwise. And I doubt it'll be enough of a turnoff to dissuade a significant number from playing.

It seems like Keanu Reeves was the highlight of E3 LOL.  For me I wasn't interested in anything except for Cyberpunk and Doom Eternal.  Cyberpunk (CD ProjectReD) is also backed by Microsoft now.

That's true about Kojima.  It's like he gets a gigantic quantity of ideas and merges them together into something insane but intriguing.  Like a mad scientist.  I've always appreciated his creativity and the uniqueness/high volume of substance in his games.
