I read somewhere that keeping your brain active is a great way to stave off a lot of the effects of aging on the brain. Kudos to you for languages. I can only handle two myself. English and bad English. ![]()

Yeah, my parents were kind of awesome that way.

"We are all born scientist with our fascination of the world around us yet going thru the public school system in many areas does nothing more then beat that out of us and that there is a HUGE problem and it must be resolved ASAP
"
This one is a great sentence I cannot agree with you on more !!!
From the post of yours I can sense lots of optimism for US science in future - which is very relieving I have to admit. I agree that the more scientifically-evolved countries around us, the higher probability of discovering solutions for our problems. Not everyone has to be a scientist - but a country cannot ask for more blessing than having a scientifically literate public that understands science, supports and promotes it!
The funds have always been a huge problem in the science world, especially because to get them you need to have a project interesting for government or public and most scientists just do not how to explain the importance of their work to the general public and politicians. They end up in math equations and people are like "duh, that is one mad science". Which is totally absurd, of course, for a great project to end like this.
The other problem is the whole image of government of how science actually works. They think that you only need to tell a scientist to discover a certain thing and olala - here we are, year later, with the super machine that you needed and wanted - but that´s totally of how the science does NOT work. Science needs basic data, basic research to get into big things. All huge discoveries were made by pursuing totally basic functions of how nature and the universe works - without basic research, there is no real science.
I´m usually very bitter towards religion, maybe because I was once a believer and I feel like it has stolen years from me that could be dedicated to the real things and real issues. If it was for me, religion would vanish in the next 50 years.
Sadly, there are still so many people who need religion, and if we would take it from them violently, they would either pursue it in secret or get to something ever worse (pseudoscience, homeopathics, UFO believers....) - I understand now that everything must be done naturally, that people must decide for themselves, THEY must be the one to make the decision just as I did.
The key is education and freedom of thinking. Children are the key
I heard that from a few people and it really just encompasses everything about who we are as a species
Man has always been intrigued by the world around them whether it be Archimedes, Michelangelo, Tesla, Eisenstein to the countless minds who have lived and passed and those currently bringing new discoveries our way, they all share that common trait of being explores in their field of studies/work ![]()
For me it's not just the USA but the worlds as a whole I am very optimistic with
People look at the world today and are quick to point at political, religious and ideological unrest but many seem to forget that we are currently living in some of the most peaceful times in history. Conflict shall always be in our vocabulary but the scale at which it was fought before shall most likely never be fought again due to global awareness of our place on this planet and how interconnected we have become as a society
But once again yes, science needs to be a priority for all and for all to be taught so individuals have a better consciousness of the world around them and how their individual decisions affect this planet. Ignorance is never bliss.
I am so glad you mentioned funding. This is why I like the idea of crowd funding sites where no longer do you need the backing of any government entity or business but a simple, well presented idea. There are a few websites out there that do this, not sure if you have heard of this concept before but this has given the chance of many wonderful bright minds out there to get their ideas off with nothing more then a few simple punches of a keyboard and clicks of a mouse. Once again, this is what I love about a interconnected world. Ideas and information are spreading faster and faster each day.
Hmm, you make a valid point there about government and scientific/research priorities since necessity if the mother of invention. This is why the scientific method needs to be applied to any current issue we might be having. That way a more constructed application of an idea can get off the ground along with government funding and support. For example, look at what our past president Kennedy accomplished with our space program back in the 60's by vowing that within a span of LESS THAN 10 YEARS we would put a man on the moon and bring him back. Yes, this came out of political and ideological tensions but a great lesson is to be learned from the cold war, and that is with the right mind-set and determination anything can be accomplished and in turn society will reap all that it has sowed with endless inventions and quality improvements to life.
LOL no worries I know how you feel about that bitterness you speak of with religion. I understand it can offer peace and a good moral compass for those who decide to follow the words of some ancient text on what life is. But as you, it does nothing more then rob you of the truth and understands of what is out there. I consider it a handicap for society and we can sure use less of it and current trends show that more and more people are deciding to live a life without it and I couldn't be more jovial about it.
Education is the key to sum it up once again ![]()

I'm not generally a fan of celebrity gossip. That said, do you by any chance know if there's any truth to the rumor of Tina Fey and Taylor hating each other? Sounds like a strange, random rivalry to me
given the vast differences in ages and professions among other things. Then again, if Axl Rose and Tommy Hilfiger can be rivals, then the potential for lame rivalries knows no bounds.
^ Hmm, considering how sensitive Taylor is about NOT WINNING an award with her priceless reactions of "acted humble" and the countless songs about past ex's...I'd say this chick is one freaking evil, vindictive women who if not famous would be chasing your calls and every foot steps for a "why did you break up with me!?". So ya, I think that feud had some backing to it
As a note, Tina was beyond over it as Taylor was just ranting away since you can't argue with stupid
They had to squash it for the sake of Hollywood ![]()

I love the one that Terry Pratchett wears to conventions:
http://fashionablygeek.com/t-shirts/the-epic-t-shirt-terry-pratchett-wears-to-conventions/

Terry Pratchett has a sense of humor. He’s been spotted wearing this amusing shirt at least at one convention, and it explains why he’s there. Most conventions would list J.R.R. Tolkien as their first choice (duh) but given the fact that he’s uh, not available, the list eventually comes down to Pratchett. Of course, he’s selling himself short. He’s a talented author and the Discworld series and Good Omens are well-known and beloved – fans are thrilled to have him at any convention.
They indeed were

Education is the key to sum it up once again
That´s what I keep saying to people around me that use to constantly bitch about nowadays world and how everything used to be better in the past - it´s not true. We live in a better society than before, especially during both world wars. My grandmother never had the chances that I do, nor did my mother. And I know that my children will have even better opportunities, better education, better way of life. This is what every human on this planet should be able to afford, an opportunity to freedom, education and good way of life. It´s horrendous that in this age of modern world and high technology, there are still areas (huge areas) where people have nothing of those. The positive thing about it is, that these areas are getting smaller every year. Progress is unstoppable indeed.
I did not know such sites exist! Tell me more about the project if you can ![]()
Is your family atheistic as well, Dave?

No, no offspring. Just our dog, our furkid. Which we are more than ok with. Besides, they say practice makes perfect, and we're enjoying the practice too much!

People don't know how good they have it until life goes to hell in a hand basket. As a note, since I am atheist I'm no inclined to believe in hell
And good point on the opportunities alone
Same story here, as time progressed many opportunities that we couldn't even fathom 20 years ago are now open for us to take advantage of. Important ones being medical advancements and technological improvements with communication and economic mobility. And hopefully our children will have a better future then us but this climate change debate, which there is none it's happening whether people like to admit it or not, does not stymie that. Hopefully we will be able to mitigate the harshest of consequences from our intensive burning of fossil fuels by switching over to alternatives quicker. Luckily I do see a light at the end of the tunnel as far as that's concerned now that solar is competitive in countries such as Spain, Australia and Germany. And the USA has been exploding with solar installations especially California
Our neighbors installed them a few months back actually
And amen on progress hun, no one shall stop that and I look forward to the day that every person on this planet has their hands on the chance to better themselves, at least the choice, that is never too much to ask for ![]()

Seriously, I was going to say something and thought better of it. Your PM reply might help decoding that. I'm a babelfish tonight. Don't mind me, I'm going off to my corner with my ice cream. ![]()

It would be such a shame if people like you didn´t have kids. Some time ago I was very anti-children (and still am not attracted by children in general), however, the force to teach them everything I know makes me lose my fear.
It´s going to be just another great adventure. And also a kind of psychological study!

Thank you for the link, I´m checking it out at the moment
have you funded anything there? ![]()
Solar installations are quite widespread in Europe (and causing some serious problems to the legislacies of some countries because of the scandals with EU funds - good things not reconsidered well) and people especially like them to supplement at least some electricity at the house, mostly for heating water
We too plan to have them once ![]()
There are always many things one can do to help our environment - create less waste, separate, care about trees in his/her surroundings, plant them when there is possibility, be careful about water, eat less, walk more, educate themselves on the issues... there is always something to do.

^ I haven't funded anything yet on that particular site but some of the idea deserve a million or two ![]()
Oh indeed they are especially in Germany
And good idea on getting a few panels, with prices dropping each year at a steady pace it looks more and more economically feasible to go off the grid then pay for absurd energy prices from a local utility. Once energy storage falls in price get ready to see many homeowners and businesses pull the plug.
Amen on that hun, I guess people look at themselves and are too quick to tell themselves "what can little ol' me do to change the world"...A LOT! The sum of all our actions can literally clean up our planet or keep on trashing it.
And on a side note, I love your Jac set :brows:

I´ve found some in Bratislava - but they were canceled or ended long time ago
still, it´s a very interesting idea indeed! Can you imagine something similar with science? I mean the basic research or funds for space projects???
I was talking about solar energy with Andy not long time ago and he told me (if I recall it well) that the main problem is the huge investment from companies need and no real rentability of the whole business caused by the still pricy technology.
Exactly! I know a girl who, in her spare time, likes to walk through woods and pick up trash, cleaning it from waste step by step. I´m lazy to do such thing on a daily basis
but when I see any junk at the woods I try to pick it up and put it where it belongs.
Thank you!! I love it too, I love that editorial, it´s so different, so perfect! Jac is such a muse. Your Hailey set is really sexy - when have you fallen for her?

^ Mhmm I can and this is why the whole concept of crowd funding is the perfect idea since it can help those looking for research funds to improve on their idea and make it mainstream ![]()
Ah yes but that has turned on its head now, what Andy said. Solar has been exploding over the past 5 years and with prices dropping very fast in kw/hr production it's now competing and more viable a energy source in countries like Spain, Australia and Germany compared to fossil fuels. And with efficiency rates going up and the ever decreasing prices per panel and the sheer amount of investments coming in, the age of renewable energy IS here and I now see the light at the end of the tunnel for fossil fuels
The ONE issue now to overcome is storage, you hear it all the time that we need to drop the price of storage and improve the technology, which it is at a fathomable speed, so once that last key to the puzzle is put into place you should start seeing homeowners and businesses cut the cord and go off the grid in large numbers.
Jac loves the art of modeling and how she precipices it gives us the work we see now
Thx, that women is just something else!
As of this year I really started falling for her. I will admit that part of the reason is her amazing boobs, I'm a guy so I wont kid myself by not admitting to that
But also her face and those eyes and the way she works the camera...almost hard not to fall for her.
